From March 19th to 22nd, 2024, delegates representing the telecoms regulatory authorities of West Africa gathered in Freetown, Sierra Leone for WATRA’s 21st Annual General Meeting, graciously hosted by NatCA.

The event commenced with an insightful workshop on Big Data Analytics & AI delivered by GSMA, setting the stage for fruitful discussions. During the AGM, delegates received updates on ongoing projects, including the implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Roaming initiative, and collaboratively reviewed the milestones achieved in the previous year, as well as the proposed initiatives for the upcoming year, culminating in the approval of the 2024 Annual Plan and budget.

Noteworthy highlights included the unanimous reelection of Aliyu Yusuf Aboki as the organization’s Executive Secretary for a second 3-year term, alongside the election of Mr. Amara Brewah, Director-General of NatCA - Sierra Leone, as the new Chairman of the Executive Committee.

WATRA is playing a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Regional Regulation on Roaming for the West-African subregion. WATRA's in-house dashboard is the key component to monitoring and evaluating the progress of implementation across the 44 network operators in the region.
