Dr. Francis gave the charge during a meeting with Supervisors and Custodian Officers held at Government Secondary School, Gboko, where participants were briefed on scheduled activities and important guidelines for the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE.
Represented by the Desk Officer, Examinations, Mr. Christopher Agule, the Executive Secretary stated that the foundation of any examination does not rest solely on preparation and logistics, but also on the character and integrity of those entrusted with its conduct.
He urged supervisors not to tarnish the confidence and reputation principals had painstakingly built before nominating them for the assignment. He warned that anyone found engaging in examination malpractice would face the full wrath of the law and would no longer be considered for future recommendations.
According to him, BEQAEB is aware of challenges encountered in previous examinations and has taken deliberate steps to improve the process and ensure near-perfect conduct of the examinations. He stressed that the Board would not tolerate any attempt to sabotage the examination process.
The Executive Secretary outlined key instructions to supervisors, including, prompt collection of examination materials from custodian points by 7:00 a.m. and immediate distribution to school, ensuring that the correct number of examination materials corresponds with the number of candidates, strict prohibition of mobile phones, textbooks, and any other materials that could aid examination malpractice, reading instructions clearly to candidates before commencement of examinations, maintaining discipline and silence during examinations, ensuring examinations begin and end at the stipulated time and proper documentation and reporting of any cases of malpractice or misconduct.

BEQAEB BOSS AIMS TO ADMINISTER QUALITY STANDARDS IN FIRST BECE SINCE MERGER
The Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB) has intensified preparations ahead of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the first since the agency’s merger. This followed a briefing held at the Board’s headquarters in Makurdi, which brought together principals from across the state.
According to the Executive Secretary, Dr. Terna Francis, the meeting focused on ensuring smooth examination planning and ex*****on, including proper registration, material distribution, and result processing. He noted that despite challenges such as late registration and incomplete school uploads, the Board had completed sorting and bagging of examination materials seven days ahead of the meeting.
He announced a final deadline of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for schools to complete all required uploads, warning that failure to comply would lead to forfeiture of participation in the examination. He added that registration deadlines had been repeatedly extended to accommodate schools facing challenges, particularly those in insecure or financially constrained areas.
Dr. Francis also introduced new measures aimed at improving transparency and accountability. These include redesigned answer booklets bearing the BEQAEB name, website, and a call/WhatsApp-enabled contact line for reporting issues or shortages at examination centres in real time through a dedicated situation room.
In addition, he stated that examination materials will no longer be transported in envelopes or hand-carried, but must be placed in official bags supplied free by the Board to improve security and standardization.
He further reminded school principals to update Continuous Assessment (CA) records on the e-dossier platform, noting that the Board will now access CA data electronically during result compilation. He added that each learner’s unique e-dossier PIN must be written on answer booklets during the examination to prevent manipulation and ensure data integrity.
After the meeting BEQAEB staff ensured that complaints were addressed as well as Instructions to Practicals materials were distributed to principals.

FELICITATION
Page 10 of today's The Nation Newspaper
On behalf of the Management and Staff of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB), I, Dr. Terna Francis, warmly felicitate with the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on the auspicious occasion of his 60th birthday.
This joyous milestone provides an opportunity to celebrate a life richly defined by purpose, service, and impactful leadership. Your six decades of experience and dedication, combined with your stewardship in the priesthood and now as Governor, reflect a statesman who has risen above personal ambition to focus on building a lasting legacy for future generations.
Under your visionary leadership, decades of infrastructural decay have been boldly confronted with renewed vigor. This has resulted in remarkable development strides, including the extensive construction of urban and rural roads, transforming the state into a hub of activity. The construction of underpasses in Makurdi and Gboko has further enhanced accessibility, stimulated economic growth, and given our towns the outlook of modern and thriving urban centers.
Your administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare is highly commendable. The renovation of the State Secretariat has provided a more conducive working environment for civil servants, while the prompt payment of salaries before the 25th of every month, alongside the clearance of salary arrears and pension backlogs, clearly demonstrates your dedication to the well-being of workers and retirees.
In the education sector, your resolve to ensure literacy for every Benue child is evident in the significant increase in budgetary allocation from a modest 5 percent in previous administrations to 25.29 percent under your leadership. The renovation and reconstruction of about 375 public schools across the state further underscore your commitment to improving access to quality education. Additionally, the recruitment of over 9,000 teachers has helped bridge staffing gaps, with the promise of even more employment opportunities.
At BEQAEB, we remain poised to conduct the most credible Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) yet, following a strategic merger that has strengthened oversight and ensured compliance with examination processes. The 72-office ultramodern complex, graciously funded and completed by your administration, has already enhanced our operational efficiency, providing a conducive environment for thorough preparation and seamless ex*****on of examination activities.
Furthermore, the release of the 2024 and 2025 BECE certificates, now embedded with enhanced security features, including QR codes linked to a verification portal, marks another important milestone. This achievement has restored credibility to the examination system, especially after results had not been released since 2017.
As Your Excellency celebrates this Diamond Jubilee milestone, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to ensuring that your vision for literacy is realized through the enforcement of quality standards and policies.
We pray for continued strength, wisdom, and good health as you steer the affairs of Benue State toward greater prosperity.
Happy Diamond Jubilee and 60th Birthday, Your Excellency.
Long Live Benue State
