The Wife of the Governor of Niger State and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, sanitation and climate action among young people through the planned launch of Climate Change, Sanitation and Hygiene Clubs and Societies across schools in Niger State.

In a Press Statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor, Hadiza Abdullahi Maikano, this was disclosed during a briefing on the upcoming launch of the initiative by the Niger State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The programme is being implemented under the auspices of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, and is being championed in Niger State by Her Excellency Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago.

The delegation ws led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abubakar Sadeeq Musa, alongside key officials of the Ministry, including directors and technical experts responsible for climate change, environmental health, pollution control, sanitation and environmental sustainability programmes.

During the briefing, the team presented a comprehensive framework for the establishment and revitalisation of environmental clubs and societies in schools, aimed at fostering environmental consciousness, climate resilience and healthy sanitation practices among students.
The proposed initiative will focus on practical and educational activities such as tree planting, waste segregation, composting, environmental sanitation campaigns, hygiene education, climate change awareness, decarbonisation advocacy and sustainable agricultural practices. Students will also be encouraged to participate in community-based sanitation programmes designed to promote behavioural change and environmental responsibility.

The Ministry explained that the initiative is a step-down of a federal programme and is expected to commence in selected schools before being expanded to other institutions across the state. The programme is designed to empower students as environmental ambassadors who will carry positive environmental practices beyond the school environment and into their communities.

Speaking during the meeting,Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago commended the Ministry for its proactive approach and dedication to promoting environmental sustainability through youth engagement.She described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Niger State, noting that educating young people on climate action, environmental protection and sanitation will contribute significantly to building healthier communities and a more sustainable environment.

The First Lady emphasised the need for sustainability, and effective stakeholder engagement to ensure the success of the programme. She also encouraged collaboration with traditional institutions, community leaders, relevant federal agencies and the media to deepen awareness and strengthen public participation.
She further stressed the importance of ensuring that the initiative reaches all parts of the state over time, while maintaining a structured implementation process.The meeting concluded with plans for the Ministry to finalise key implementation details, including the proposed launch date, venue, participating schools, budget and stakeholder engagement strategy ahead of the official inauguration of the clubs and societies.

The Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Her Excellency, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, joined the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on a one-day working visit to Ekiti State.

In a Press Statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Hadiza Abdullahi Maikano, the visit brought together the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, other State First Ladies, government officials, and other distinguished guests, and was hosted by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji.

During the visit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu commissioned a newly constructed ICT Centre at Ekiti State University, facilitated through the Renewed Hope Initiative. She also met with traditional rulers under the aegis of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulersโ€™ Council and participated in activities aimed at strengthening grassroots engagement and development.

The Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Her Excellency, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, has extended warm felicitations to Muslims across Niger State and Nigeria on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Her Excellency, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, has called on citizens to imbibe the culture of sharing, compassion, and support for one another, especially during festive periods, while discouraging the hoarding of staple foods and essential commodities.

The First Lady made the call during the flag-off of the distribution of 25,000 bags of 10kg rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to vulnerable households across the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State.

Speaking at the event, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago described the intervention as timely and impactful, particularly as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir. She noted that acts of kindness and generosity remain vital in promoting unity, easing hardship, and strengthening communal bonds.
She urged well-meaning individuals, traders, and organizations to embrace the spirit of giving and avoid the unnecessary hoarding of food items and other essentials, stressing that such practices place additional burdens on vulnerable families already facing economic challenges.

Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago made this known while receiving the management team of the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), led by its Executive Director, Dr. Junaidu Inuwa, during a courtesy visit at her Office in Minna, ushered by Dr. Aisha Ndaliman who introduced members of the agencyโ€™s management team and highlighted the purpose of the visit.

In a heartfelt effort to support struggling families and strengthen small businesses across Niger State, the FirstLadyofNiger State, Her Excellency Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago has empowered 250 petty traders and small-scale entrepreneurs with grants of โ‚ฆ100,000 each.

The beneficiaries, drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state, include women and youths engaged in various micro businesses whose daily efforts continue to sustain homes and various communities despite economic challenges.

The atmosphere at the empowerment programme was filled with excitement, gratitude, and hope as beneficiaries received the financial support designed to help them expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods, and become more economically stable.

The event which took place at the Women Multipurpose Centre in Minna on Wednesday 13th May, 2026 was attended by top government officials and stakeholders, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General, Commissioners, and wives of principal officers, all of whom applauded the First Lady for her consistent commitment to touching lives at the grassroots.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta, encouraged beneficiaries to make wise use of the opportunity by investing the funds into their businesses for long-term benefit. She urged them to see the support as a stepping stone towards growth, stability, and self-reliance.
Several dignitaries who spoke during the programme described the intervention as thoughtful and impactful, noting that Hajiya Fatima Bago has continued to demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of women, youths, and vulnerable groups across the state.

For many of the beneficiaries, the intervention came as a timely relief. Representatives from different communities and language groups expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, describing the gesture as one that would positively change their businesses and family lives.

Addressing the gathering, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago reminded beneficiaries of the importance of accountability, hard work, and perseverance. She urged them to use the grants responsibly and allow the support to translate into meaningful economic progress for themselves and their families.

The First Lady explained that the empowerment programme was carefully planned to ensure transparency and fairness, she said, beneficiaries were identified and captured directly at their various business locations and reassured the people of Niger State that her office will continue to champion programmes that support vulnerable groups, encourage local enterprise, and promote inclusive development across the state.
