PRESS RELEASE
RE-NEGLECT IN NIGER STATE IDP CAMPS
The attention of the Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has been drawn to a mischievous, callous and false story published by an online media platform with the name of "Beli Media" on above subject matter stating that the camps are deteriorating and thousands of IDP'S are in dire need of basic amenities and facing health challenges.
Even though the ministry is focused on discharging its responsibilities of serving the humanity and curbing disasters of all kinds and do not wish to join words with such type of Media platforms who do not physically visit such camps but sit in the comfort of their offices or rooms to write frivolous stories, it is has become imperative to set the records straight; The Ministry under the leadership of the Commissioner Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu, his Permanent Secretary Barrister Mairo Mohammed Mann and members of staff are committed to discharging the mandate of the ministry of ensuring that the Internally Displaced Persons in the state are adequately taken care of hence the continued distribution of food items, Mosquito nets, Blankets and other needed materials intermittently since the creation of the ministry on July 16th 2023 by His Excellency Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago. Such distribution had continued uptil Thursday 13th June, 2024 when the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary and other staff of the ministry in the presence of Local Government Chairmen, traditional leaders, party executive anf other critical stakeholders at various local government areas distributed food items in various camps of the state
It is also noteworthy to state that while at various camps at different times, people with health challenges and other forms of difficulties are always profiled and the necessary attention is given to them by way of treatment, counseling and advice. The Ministry as a donor driven ministry has visited and is still visiting many local, national and international donor organizations who are also on daily basis assisting the displaced persons camps; North South Power Company, T Y Danjuma Foundation, National Commission for Refugees, UNICEF, NEMA, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty alleviation are example of few of such organizations
It is very pertinent to state categorically today that because of the commitment, deligence, strategy and careful planning, the ministry has sought and got an approval of the building of a 3 billion naira skills acquisition center for the north central states to be built in Minna, Niger State for IDP'S to make them economically and socially self reliant and the construction is about commencing any moment .
The Ministry's doors are wide open for all journalists and members of the public to visit, make suggestions/inquiries and seek for assistance whenever necessary as those are the mandates for which the ministry is established, the officials of the ministry who are jointly working together will never shy away from accommodating people to their offices. Humanitarian Services and Disaster Management is everyone's responsibility and unnecessary politicization of such services is a sin against God and humanity.
Let us all join hands together to help those in need.
Thank you
