2027: ADEBAYO UNVEILS EDUCATION REVOLUTION, VOWS BETTER PAY FOR TEACHERS "FAREWELL TO POVERTY AND INSECURITY BEGINS WITH QUALITY EDUCATION" ‐-- SDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.
Ojone Kelvin Caleb reporting.
The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince (Dr.) Adewole Adebayo, has declared that transforming Nigeria’s education system will be central to his administration’s mission of achieving a “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity.”
Adebayo made the declaration in his message commemorating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, where he pledged to fundamentally overhaul the country’s education sector and make teaching one of the most attractive, respected and best-paid professions in Nigeria.
According to the SDP candidate, Nigeria cannot break the cycle of poverty, unemployment and insecurity without rebuilding its education system and restoring dignity to the teaching profession.
Adebayo-Bugaje administration would pursue a comprehensive education reform agenda built around three major priorities: better remuneration and welfare for teachers, modern educational infrastructure, and institutional respect for educators.
“We cannot expect a 21st-century educational miracle from 19th-century infrastructure and demoralised personnel,” Adebayo said.
He added that teachers would be treated as strategic nation-builders under his administration, with policies designed to improve their salaries, welfare, working conditions, professional development and access to modern teaching resources.
Recent national reporting has similarly highlighted poor remuneration, insecurity and inadequate welfare as significant challenges facing teachers in Nigeria, reinforcing the importance of the issues raised in Adebayo’s proposal.
Education as the Foundation for a better Nigeria
Adebayo said the country’s future prosperity depends heavily on the quality of education available to its citizens, stressing that every doctor, lawyer, engineer, scientist, entrepreneur, soldier and political leader was once shaped by a teacher.
He therefore described investment in teachers and schools as an investment in Nigeria’s human capital and long-term development.
The SDP candidate also paid tribute to the history of organised teaching in Nigeria, recalling the establishment of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in 1931 and the contributions of educationist and nationalist Alvan Ikoku and other pioneers.
He said the commitment of those early educators should inspire a renewed national effort to restore excellence, dignity and purpose to education.
Teachers Must Not Be Left Behind
Adebayo commended Nigerian teachers for continuing to serve despite difficult working conditions, inadequate facilities and other challenges.
“Despite working under extremely difficult conditions, facing decades of systemic neglect, dilapidated classrooms, lack of modern teaching aids and delayed entitlements, Nigerian teachers have consistently given an excellent account of themselves,” he said.
He argued that a nation cannot build a productive economy or secure society while neglecting the people responsible for educating its children.
“Our administration will make teaching one of the most attractive professions in Nigeria. We will execute bold, revolutionary policies to overhaul the Nigerian educational system completely,” he said.
Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity
For Adebayo, the education agenda forms part of a broader development vision built around “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity”—a message he has positioned at the centre of his 2027 campaign.
He said quality education, properly equipped schools and well-compensated teachers would help create the skilled, productive and responsible citizens required to build a prosperous Nigeria.
“To our primary school teachers laying the foundation, our secondary school teachers guiding our youth, and our university lecturers steering research — we see you, we value you, and help is on the way,” Adebayo said.
As the 2027 election approaches, the SDP candidate is presenting education reform as a major component of his proposed national development agenda, with the stated objective of moving Nigeria towards greater opportunity, prosperity and security.
The message is clear: strengthen the classroom, empower the teacher, equip the child—and build a Nigeria where poverty and insecurity no longer define the future.
Farewell to Poverty. Farewell to Insecurity. Forward to a better Nigeria.
