I HAVE ATTENDED ENOUGH EVENTS IN NIGERIA TO KNOW THAT SOMETIMES THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON YOU MEET IS NOT ON THE STAGE. 😂
You can spend six hours listening to speakers, take 47 pictures, fill your phone with videos you will never watch again, eat one questionable plate of rice and go home.
Then nothing changes.
But occasionally, you attend one and randomly sit beside somebody.
You start talking.
“What do you do?”
You explain.
The person says:
“Wait, I know someone you should meet.”
And somehow, the most valuable 15 minutes of your entire day happens during a conversation that wasn’t even on the programme.
I have become increasingly convinced that one of the biggest advantages you can have while building anything is simply being in the right rooms.
Not every room, please.
Some rooms will only give you jotter, pen and high blood pressure. 😂
But rooms with people who are actually building things.
This is partly why I found SMFest interesting.
They started this thing in 2021 and have since taken it through Owerri, Awka and Abuja, bringing together people across technology, business, media, entrepreneurship and the creator economy.
This year, they are doing Abuja again.
And somehow, they have also decided that I know enough to be given a microphone. 😂
So on October 17, I will be at SMFest Abuja 2026 alongside a pretty interesting collection of founders, business leaders, creators and tech people.
The theme this year is AdvantageX — The Exponential Advantage.
I like the word advantage.
Because two equally intelligent people can work equally hard for ten years and end up in completely different places simply because one had access to better information, better relationships and better rooms.
If you are building something around business, media, technology or the digital economy, come around.
Not necessarily because I will be speaking.
You people already hear me talk too much. 😂
Come because there might be someone sitting three chairs away from you whom you really need to meet.
