COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS, RALPH NWOSU, INSPECTS KEY ONGOING PROJECTS IN OWERRI, COMMENDS QUALITY OF WORK
The Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, earlier today embarked on an unscheduled inspection tour of three critical ongoing infrastructure projects within the Owerri metropolis. The projects inspected include:
1. Reconstruction and rehabilitation of Douglas Road
2. 11-story Imo Internal Revenue Service Building
3. Mbari/Ikenegbu/MCC Junction Road
The unannounced visit allowed the Commissioner to carry out on-the-spot assessments of work quality, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to delivery timelines.
During the tour, he commended the overall quality of ongoing works and expressed satisfaction that visible progress is being recorded despite the challenges associated with urban construction.
At Douglas Road, one of the busiest commercial corridors in the state capital, the Commissioner noted the advanced stages of construction and recalled that the road was in a deplorable state before the current intervention, with failed sections and poor drainage causing severe hardship to commuters, motorists, and business owners. He stated that with the ongoing reconstruction, Douglas Road will undergo a redefined facelift that will ease traffic congestion, stimulate economic activity, and restore its status as a major artery in Owerri.
At the 11-story Imo Internal Revenue Service Building, the Commissioner inspected structural works and internal fittings currently underway. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of ex*****on, stating that the project is progressing appreciably. He highlighted the building’s strategic role in expanding the state’s revenue base and providing a conducive, modern facility for staff and taxpayers alike.
While visiting the Mbari/Ikenegbu/MCC Junction Road, where asphalt laying is currently in progress, the Commissioner charged the contractor to sustain quality construction and ensure that all materials meet approved standards for durability. He added that the government will not accept substandard delivery on any project funded with public resources.
The unscheduled inspection visit by the Commissioner underscores the Ministry of Works’ commitment to proactive supervision, transparency, and accountability in project delivery. It reflects the Ministry’s resolve to guarantee value for money and ensure that projects are completed within agreed timelines.
Addressing journalists at the end of the inspection tour, the Commissioner seized the opportunity to appeal to road users and residents to bear with the temporary inconveniences caused by the ongoing works. He urged motorists to maintain designated alternative routes pending the completion of the projects, assuring that the short-term disruptions will give way to long-term benefits.
Ralph Nwosu further reiterated State Government’s unwavering commitment to improving sustainable infrastructure across Imo State. He affirmed that the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma remains focused on delivering legacy projects that will stand the test of time, enhance urban renewal, and directly impact the socio-economic wellbeing of citizens.

IMO STATE GOVERNMENT BEGINS DOUGLAS ROAD REHABILITATION PROJECT.
Imo State Government has launched the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the iconic Douglas Road, a key artery in Owerri, aiming to transform it into a modern, vibrant thoroughfare. This strategic move is set to enhance road functionality, stimulate economic growth, and elevate residents' quality of life.
The project, featuring two pedestrian bridges at St. Paul's and New Market junctions, underscores government's commitment to upgrading state infrastructure. Upon completion, Douglas Road will showcase modern amenities, improved drainage, and sleek pedestrian walkways, symbolizing Imo's progress.
This initiative aligns with government's broader vision to create a conducive environment for businesses, residents, and visitors, driving development and prosperity across the state. The project is being undertaken by Craneburg Construction Company.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES: RALPH NWOSU INSPECTS AMARAKU /UMUELEMMAI ROAD AND AGBAJA-MGBOROKO-UMUEZEALA -UMUKABIA ROAD.
As part of efforts to ensure sustainable project delivery, the Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, has made an unscheduled inspection visit to the ongoing rehabilitation of Amaraku/Umuelemmai road in Isiala Mbano LGA and the construction of Agbaja, Mgboroko, Umuezeala Umukabia road in Ehime Mbano LGA.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the accelerated pace of work on both projects and charged the contractor to sustain the momentum. He stated that the construction of these strategic corridors underscores the administration's commitment to improving road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity in rural areas.

The Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, yesterday inspected the ongoing construction of internal roads at the proposed estate along Nekede road and the Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road.
The internal roads are at base course level and are set to receive asphalt. The Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road is undergoing asphalt laying, currently at Ihiagwa Market, and will progress to Ihiagwa Bridge and Obinze.
Ralph Nwosu noted the project's critical importance, especially the Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road, and pledged government commitment to completing them in the coming months.

WORKS COMMISSIONER INSPECTS OWERRI-ELELE ROAD PROJECT.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Ralph Nwosu, has paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the ongoing construction of Owerri-Elele road to assess the progress of work.
During his visit, the Commissioner toured the project site, covering the stretch from Owerri to Imo/Rivers state boundary. He expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, commending the contractor for their efforts in ensuring the project is on track.
Ralph Nwosu further reiterated the importance of strict compliance to project specifications, emphasizing that this is crucial to delivering a road that meets the highest standards of quality and durability.
The Owerri-Elele road is a critical infrastructure project that will significantly improve connectivity and upon completion will end the excruciating sufferings of motorists and other road users.

PROJECT REPORT: CONSTRUCTION OF 8.5KM DUAL CARRIAGEWAY NWAORIEUBI/ UMUNOHA UKWUORJI ROAD
The ongoing construction of the 8.5km dual carriageway Nwaorieubi/ Umunoha Ukwuorji Road is a significant development in improving the state's infrastructure. The road, which was previously in a deplorable and near impassable condition, is undergoing rehabilitation to boost trade and commerce within the areas and serve as a veritable bypass for commuters.
The project is a collaborative effort between the NDDC and Imo State Government, showcasing a strong partnership towards improving the state's infrastructure. Works are currently at the formation level stage, with activities progressing from the Nwaorieubi section down to Ukwuorji intersection, involving grading, filling, and compaction of the road base to create a stable foundation for the carriageway.
Upon completion, the road will provide a smooth and safe passage for motorists, enhancing connectivity and ease of doing business in that horizon. The project reflects the reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery (3R) vision of His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma, aimed at transforming Imo State's infrastructure and driving economic growth.

PROJECT UPDATE: RECONSTRUCTION AND REHABILITATION OF THE 33.1KM OWERRI/ONITSHA ROAD
The Owerri/Onitsha Road reconstruction project is nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in improving transportation and economic development in South-East Nigeria. This critical link between Imo and Anambra States will reduce travel time, improve safety, and boost economic activity.
Key highlights of the project include, storm water drainage systems installation in Irete Axis, Njaba Bridge and Awomama areas to mitigate flooding, and ongoing road markings and street lighting installations. The project is approximately 95% completed.
Upon completion, the road will reflect the vision of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma, CON, for improved infrastructure and economic growth of th State.

PROJECT REPORT: CONSTRUCTION OF IMO REVENUE SERVICE BUILDING
The ongoing construction of the 11- Floor Story Imo Revenue Service building is progressing, with works advancing in stages. This project aims to provide a modern and comfortable workspace for Imo Revenue Service personnel, aligning with international standards.
The substructure is completed, and superstructure works are underway. Construction has reached the second floor, with the Mezzanine floor advancing concurrently. Electrical, plumbing, and piping components are progressing in tandem, enabling efficient project delivery.
Upon completion, the building will boost productivity and efficiency for Imo Revenue Service personnel, while its strategic location and design will enhance accessibility and service delivery to taxpayers, ultimately growing the state's revenue base.
