IMO ENTRACO HOOLIGANISM AND THE AFTERMATH.

Uzodimma suspends ENTRACO activities with immediate effect

Effective immediately, Governor Hope Uzodimma has suspended all activities connected to the operations of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) till further notice.

He did on Monday, November 10, 2025, following report of an incident that occurred in Owerri, linked to ENTRACO operations, which claimed the life of a person and left another in critical situation in the hospital.

Governor Uzodimma said he was not unmindful of other recent ugly incidents where the mode of operations of ENTRACO was brought to question by members of the public.

However, the Governor warned that immediate suspension of ENTRACO operations is not a license for members of the public to take traffic, environmental, and other laws into their hands as those found to be in violation of such laws will pay dearly for it.

GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA MEANS WELL FOR THE PEOPLE AND WE MUST EMBRACE CHANGE FOR DEVELOPMENT – Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu.

The Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Chief Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu KSC, has reiterated the Imo State Government's commitment under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma to promoting policies and programs that foster sustainable development across the State.

Speaking during a World Press Conference in Owerri, the Commissioner emphasized that the Government remains open to any credible partnership that will drive development in line with its vision. He addressed recent misinformation concerning the allocation of land to Zion Ministries Inc. at Mbaishii in Ngor Okpala LGA, dismissing claims by some individuals that 30,000 hectares were acquired by the Government for Evangelist Ebuka Obi.

“The truth remains that only 2,000 hectares were acquired by the State Government in 2003 under the administration of former Governor Achike Udenwa, with a Certificate of Occupancy issued in favour of the Imo Guangdong Free Trade Zone,” Onuegbu stated. “Following the failure of that project, the land has since undergone a series of revocations and reallocations by successive administrations, which is the standard process when an allottee fails to develop allocated land within a given timeframe.”

He further clarified that, following Zion Ministries Inc.’s expression of interest in establishing critical public-use infrastructure, the Government approved the allocation of 1,000 hectares from the original parcel. The proposed projects include a school, hospital, religious centre, water processing factory, event centre, old people's home, and estate development.

“The Government evaluated the economic and developmental benefits of the proposal, including job creation, and today, the impact is already visible within the community,” Onuegbu said.

He also revealed that compensation was fully paid for the land, and as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Zion Ministries Inc. made additional payments to the five villages involved. Traditional rulers and local stakeholders were consulted throughout the process.

“Those peddling falsehoods are people with selfish interests. The Government will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found illegally selling portions of the land,” Onuegbu warned, urging citizens to “embrace change in the best interest of our people.”

Press release

Uzodimma: Government commited to N70,000 minimum wage implementation

Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma has reassured workers in Imo State that his government is commited to the implementation of the N70,000 new national Minimum wage as already approved by the Federal Government.

Briefing newsmen on Thursday after a closed door meeting with Labour leaders in Imo State, Governor Uzodimma said commencement of payment of the N70,000 new minimum wage in Imo State is around the corner as his government and Labour leaders are already working out the modalities.

He described the new minimum wage as proper and appropriate hence his government is committed to its implementation.

He further noted that the current cost of living and situation of things globally, necessitate the need to create better incentives for the working community.

Apart from using the minimum wage to stimulate the economy, the Governor emphasised that the Federal Government also considered cushioning the effects of the hardship the workers are facing to approve the new national minimum wage.

While promising to start the payment soon, the Governor urged the workers in Imo State to "show more commitment and be more productive."

The Governor said that since the new minimum wage figure of N70,000 is already known to everyone, "what is needed is to work out the modalities on the consequential adjustments to trickle it down to the senior staff cadre because it is not for the junior workers alone, and by so doing the incentives, no matter the ration, will go round."

Governor Uzodimma said but for the challenge of limited resources at the disposal of government, he was committed to immediate minimum wage implementation, but promised that "between now and the next two months," everything will be sorted out.

"As government is determined to pay more, there is need for better and quality services to the people of Imo State," Governor Uzodimma added and called on the workers to "join hands to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of the State."

Reacting to the Governor’s assurance and the meeting with him, the Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Imo State Chapter, Comrade Uche Chigaemezue Nwigwe said that Governor Uzodimma has remained "workers-friendly and has shown willingness to implement the National Minimum wage for Imo workers."

Nwigwe who assured that they will fast track discussions in one or two additional meetings of their committee on the implementation, promised that as soon as that is done "Imo workers will get what is due to them."
