President Bola Tinubu has urged the senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, AbdulFatai Buhari, to work towards the electoral success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, particularly in the Oke-Ogun area, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The president reportedly made the appeal when he met with Buhari on Friday night.

The meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).

Buhari, a three-term senator and former member of the House of Representatives from Ogbomoso, was said to have been urged by Tinubu to return to his political base and mobilise support for the APC and its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The president specifically appealed to the senator to work for his re-election bid, as well as the success of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, and other party candidates across the state.

Tinubu was also said to have emphasised the need for Buhari to concentrate on the Oke-Ogun axis, where the party is seeking to strengthen its grassroots mobilisation and improve its electoral prospects.

Buhari represents Oyo North Senatorial District, which comprises local government areas across Oke-Ogun and other parts of the senatorial zone.

The meeting comes amid political consultations and mobilisation by parties ahead of the 2027 general election, with party leaders expected to play key roles in consolidating support for their candidates.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has promised to grant local governments (LGs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) autonomy from May 29, 2027, if elected.

Alli made the pledge on Thursday at the inauguration of the Oyo State chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement and the donation of 32 campaign vehicles at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, formerly known as Liberty Stadium, in Oke Ado, Ibadan.

โ€œAll our LCDAs and LGs will have autonomy on the day we are sworn in on May 29, 2027,โ€ he said.

The APC governorship candidate expressed appreciation to the Grand Patron of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for donating the vehicles to support the partyโ€™s campaign in the state.

โ€œWe are very grateful. We know all your efforts towards ensuring that President Bola Tinubu is re-elected in 2027. I want to assure you that we will make judicious use of these vehicles and other items that may be donated by you and other support groups,โ€ Alli said.

He said APC was working hard to reclaim power in Oyo State in 2027.

โ€œWe have stayed out of government in Oyo State for too long, and we are working assiduously to ensure we take over the government in 2027.

โ€œWe want to assure you that not only are we going to get Mr President re-elected, we will also ensure that we elect all our National Assembly and state House of Assembly members,โ€ he added.

Alli recalled that Oyo State recorded the highest number of votes for Tinubu in the South West during the 2023 presidential election, adding that the party was working to double the figure in 2027.

He urged eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and turn out early to vote for APC candidates in the presidential and governorship elections.

Earlier, Chief Kestin Pondi, who represented Tompolo, said the movement donated the 32 vehicles to mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in Oyo State.

Pondi said the group was committed to supporting Tinubuโ€™s re-election.

He described the presidentโ€™s economic reforms as necessary measures to move the country forward and secure a better future for younger generations.

โ€œWe will vote for President Tinubu to continue his reforms.

โ€œReforms are never easy in the beginning. That is what we are all experiencing now. But we will enjoy later. We must pay the sacrifice today for our children to enjoy in the future,โ€ Pondi added.

He urged residents to vote for Tinubu, Alli and other APC candidates, promising that the movement would intensify its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.

The National Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Comrade Sunday Adekanbi Asuku, also urged residents to mobilise voters at the grassroots and support Tinubu and Alli.

โ€œThe time has come to elect our leaders. Some people are ganging up against your son. Yoruba, ronu o,โ€ he said.

Asuku urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs, visit their polling units on election day and encourage others to participate in the electoral process. He also called on supporters to embark on door-to-door campaigns to ensure victory for all APC candidates.

In his remarks, the APC chairman for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Joshua Oyebanji, who represented the partyโ€™s state chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo, thanked Tompolo for the donation.

Oyebanji expressed confidence that the APC would win the 2027 elections at all levels, from the presidency to the governorship and legislative seats.

He said the party would soon commence full-scale campaigns and urged members to remain committed to its mobilisation efforts.

Also speaking, the Oyo State Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Akinjide Kazeem Akinola, expressed confidence that the state would deliver an even stronger electoral performance for Tinubu in 2027.

โ€œOyo State gave President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the highest vote in the South West in 2023. We will give the president the highest vote in Nigeria in 2027. Let us work hard to achieve this,โ€ Akinola said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called on security agencies to investigate an alleged attack on the campaign team of the Accord governorship candidate, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, in Ibadan.

The party said the incident, which reportedly occurred in the Molete area of the state capital on Wednesday, left several supporters of the Accord candidate critically injured.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, condemned the alleged attack and urged the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

According to reports cited by the party, suspected members of the Park Management System (PMS) allegedly attacked occupants of vehicles conveying Accord supporters during a street campaign around noon.

The attackers were said to have wielded dangerous weapons, inflicting varying degrees of injuries on some of the campaigners.

The APC also accused Governor Seyi Makinde's administration of creating an atmosphere conducive to political intimidation, alleging that PMS officials had been directed to ensure that commercial motorists displayed only campaign materials belonging to candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The party, however, did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the allegations against the governor or the PMS officials.

Sadare recalled that APC members had allegedly been attacked at three different locations in Ibadan the previous week.

He also accused suspected political opponents of being responsible for the vandalism and destruction of campaign billboards, posters and other campaign materials belonging to opposition candidates in the state.

โ€œThe attack on Accord campaign train happened in broad daylight and some of the residents could identify the culprits, but we do not want to preempt the positive outcome of an objective and thorough investigation expected from the police and other security agencies,โ€ the statement said.

The APC urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, calling on security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the alleged attack.

The party further alleged that the same political interests compelling commercial motorists to participate in APM campaign activities were responsible for sponsoring attacks against opposition parties in the state.

It maintained that political violence had no place in a democratic society, warning against attempts to intimidate opposition members.

The party also recalled that the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi had taken steps to move the state away from political violence, expressing concern that the current political atmosphere could undermine those gains.

It urged the state government and security agencies to take urgent measures to prevent further violence as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
