Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Prof. Temple Nwofor, today charged newly inducted members of the state branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to continue to develop themselves through gaining practical experience in the profession.
Engr. Prof. Temple Nwofor speaking as the guest of honour at the 2026 Induction Ceremony for New Members, Fellowship Celebration and Dinner of the state branch of the association held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 in Port Harcourt.
Engr. Prof. Temple Nwofor tasked the inductees to engage in a continuous learning process, adding that self development was essential for any engineer who wishes advancement in the profession.
Engr . Prof. Temple Nwofor who spoke to newsmen at the event stated that, the new inductees need to continue developing themselves by being in practice rather than engaging in something else outside the engineering profession.
He described Nigerian engineers as dedicated professionals stressing that incidence of building collapse may not wholly be the fault of the project engineer.
"Our Engineers are doing well but most times you don't know who is cutting corners, It could be the owner of the project," Prof. Nwofor noted.
The Commissioner however assured that, all the signature projects embarked upon by the Governor, Siminalaiyi Fubara's administration will be completed by the end of its tenure adding that all ongoing projects in the state are on course.
The induction ceremony witnessed the admission of 61 engineers into the profession while four members of the branch were conferred with the 'Fellows' status of the association.
