The Kaa-Ataba Bridge, being built by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is set to become the longest bridge the Commission has built in the Niger Delta region, surpassing the 600-metre Ibeno Bridge in Akwa Ibom State.

More than a major engineering achievement, the bridge represents a new link between communities, economies and opportunities across the region.

NDDC DISTRIBUTES WORKING TOOLS TO ONE HUNDRED WOMEN IN AKWA IBOM STATE

In continuation of the 2-Day Digital Empowerment, ICT Skills and Online Market Access Programme for women in Akwa Ibom State, by the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), the Director, Commercial and Industrial Development, Lyna Okara, Esq.
in her welcome address, thanked the current Governing Board for always projecting women in their empowerment programmes noting that women are known to be industrious. She remarked,
"We will no longer be in a position where we wait for handouts or we are powerless, we can't fend for ourselves, to the point that we can stand and urged the participants to ensure that they become business facilitators themselves, through the skills training and capacity building."

Highlight of the event was the presentation of working tools and certificates to participants.

The Kaa-Ataba Bridge is set to transform transportation and economic activities in Rivers State by cutting what was once a two-hour boat journey to just a three-minute drive, thereby improving mobility of goods faster and easier, strengthening trade and fostering greater economic integration between the two communities and beyond.

The 1.2-kilometre bridge linking Kaa in Khana Local Government Area to Ataba in Andoni Local Government Area will connect families, markets and communities while opening up new opportunities in the region’s blue economy.

MD/CEO NDDC ONBOARDED ONTO DIGITAL E-MEMO PLATFORM

The Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, has been onboarded onto the Commission’s digital e-Memo platform as part of efforts to strengthen digital transformation and enhance administrative efficiency.

Speaking during the onboarding exercise at the NDDC Headquarters, Chief Ogbuku stated that the initiative is in compliance with the directive of the Federal Government on digital transformation and aligns with the Commission’s policy of “Transiting from Transactions to Transformations.”

Chief Ogbuku urged Management and staff to fully embrace and comply with the e-Memo process, stressing the importance of leveraging digital solutions to improving efficiency, accountability and service delivery across the Commission.

NDDC MD/CEO FELICITATES BAYELSA STATE AT 30

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, has congratulated the government and people of Bayelsa State on the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Reflecting on Bayelsa’s journey, Ogbuku recalled that the state was created to enhance administrative convenience and accelerate the development of its communities.

He noted that Bayelsa’s creation coincided with his admission to university and inspired him to identify more closely with his people - a journey that subsequently strengthened his interest in politics and public service.

The NDDC Chief Executive commended successive administrations for contributing building blocks to the state’s growth and transformation.

“In 30 years, Bayelsa has grown. From one leader to another, they have added different layers of blocks to bring the state to this level. Yenagoa is no longer what it used to be; today, Yenagoa is a city.”

Chief Ogbuku wished Bayelsa State continued peace, unity, prosperity and sustainable development in the years ahead.

NDDC EMPOWERS ONE HUNDRED WOMEN IN AKWA IBOM STATE WITH DIGITAL AND ICT TOOLS

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has embarked on a 2-Day empowerment programme for women in Akwa Ibom State aimed at equipping one hundred women with the necessary digital knowledge and ICT skills to enhance their businesses, give them the required online market access and elevate the profit of their goods and services.

While speaking at the programme, which held in Uyo, the Director, NDDC State Office, Engr. Evong Evong, described the event as a well thought out empowerment programme, geared towards training participants with the tools to utilise online platforms for more creativity, visibility and to meet up with the current realities of a profitable business in the world. He stated that "with the digital exposure, you all would be able to expand your reach through online market access as well as expose your businesses to global clients and opportunities".

The facilitators, Mr. Godwin Sunday Esu, spoke on the topic, Digital Literacy and ICT Skills, educating participants on the importance of having online presence such as online banking apps, email address and unique brand identities
for their businesses while Mr. Yiereobong Akpaba, spoke on the topic, Digital Entrepreneurship and Online Market Access. He taught participants the need for online advertisement and making their businesses lucrative through professional interaction with potential customers, as well as ensuring that they are active and follow up with various engagements on their online platforms, in order to push the algorithm in their favour.

The programme continues tomorrow with distribution of empowerment items and certificates.

HIGHLIGHT: SYNERGY DRIVING TRANSFORMATION IN THE NIGER DELTA

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, has attributed the Commission’s growing record of transformational projects to the support and cooperation of its development partners and stakeholders.

Speaking at the 2026 NDDC Partners for Sustainable Development Conference in Port Harcourt, Ogbuku highlighted the completion of the 1.2-kilometre Kaa-Ataba Bridge, linking Khana and Andoni Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

He noted that the bridge, when open to vehicular traffic, is one of the landmark projects many previously considered beyond the Commission’s capacity.

“These are things that, in the past, people never believed the NDDC could do. Today, we are doing them seamlessly because of the support we are getting.”

Ogbuku thanked stakeholders, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly and the Minister of Regional Development for supporting and encouraging the Commission to deliver impactful projects across the Niger Delta.

He affirmed that the achievements of the NDDC demonstrate the power of collective responsibility and explain why the 2026 conference is aptly themed, “Synergy for Transformation.”
