Today, I joined the family of Hon. Chijioke Ihunwo at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Oro-Igwe District, for a deeply memorable triple celebration: the dedication of a new parsonage, the 10th memorial thanksgiving service for his beloved late mother, Mrs. Justina Ihunwo, and his birthday thanksgiving.

I was delighted to personally commend Hon. Ihunwo, the immediate past Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, for his unwavering devotion to the service of God and his impactful contributions to Church development.

The Bible teaches us that those who sow into the house of God and cultivate fertile spiritual ground will reap abundant, enduring blessings that extend to their families and future generations. Hon. Ihunwo’s decision to honor his mother’s cherished legacy by constructing a fitting residence for the clergy is a noble act of faith that deserves every praise.

To support this worthy project, I pledged my commitment toward furnishing the new building, and I urge other well-meaning individuals to join in backing the work of God. Our support for the Church should never be a one-off gesture, but an ongoing, lifelong commitment.

I express my sincere appreciation to the officiating Bishop, clergy, and choir for a truly uplifting service. It was indeed a blessed day honoring faith, legacy, and dedicated service to God.

Our hearts go out to every family affected by the floods in Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor. We have commenced the distribution of relief materials, while vulnerable residents will also receive free medical care through our collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP).

Beyond these immediate interventions, we remain committed to addressing the root causes of flooding and pursuing sustainable solutions. I also urge us all to protect our environment by keeping our drains and waterways clear and above all, continuing to stand together in support of one another.

Today I was delighted to be associated with the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Port Harcourt Chapter, on the occasion of its 2nd Distinguished Annual Lecture, honoring Engr. Dr. Beniah Elemchukwu Ojum.

I sincerely commended the leadership of the Institution for organizing that important intellectual engagement and for choosing a theme that was both timely and highly relevant to the development aspirations of Rivers State. As a state blessed with an extensive coastline, rivers, creeks, wetlands, and other aquatic resources, Rivers State possessed enormous potential within the emerging blue economy. However, unlocking that potential required more than our abundant natural resources. It demanded sound planning, innovative engineering, modern infrastructure, and sustainable management of our aquatic environment.

Civil engineers had a particularly important role to play in that regard. From the development of ports, jetties, waterways, and coastal infrastructure to flood control, transportation networks, water management, and environmental protection, the profession was central to building the infrastructure required for a productive, resilient, and sustainable blue economy.

Rivers State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, remained committed to infrastructure development and to creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth, investment, and prosperity. We recognized that government could not achieve those objectives alone. Professional bodies such as NICE, academia, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders had to work collaboratively to transform our natural advantages into sustainable opportunities for our people.

I therefore encouraged the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers to continue providing professional leadership, innovative ideas, and practical solutions that would contribute meaningfully to the development of Rivers State.

Let me once again congratulate the organizers, the distinguished lecturer, the honorees, and all participants on that important occasion. I wished them fruitful deliberations and looked forward to recommendations that would further advance the development of our State’s blue economy.

Thank you, and God bless you all.
Long live Rivers State!
Long live the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In accordance with the comprehensive report received yesterday from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Rivers State Post-2025 Flood Relief Intervention Beneficiary Enumeration Team, which successfully enumerated individuals affected by flooding across 13 Local Government Areas, I led members of the 2026 Flood Prevention and Management Committee to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Oyigbo Local Government Area today.

As the Chairman of the committee, appointed by His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, I formally presented food items, medical supplies, non-perishable goods, and other essential materials for distribution to the LGA Chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu. This initiative aims to alleviate the impact of the recent flash flood disaster on the residents of Oyigbo.

Furthermore, I urged local government authorities to maintain ongoing sensitization efforts within rural communities, emphasizing the critical importance of proper waste disposal practices to mitigate human-induced flooding.

Subsequently, I presented relief materials to Eleme Local Government through the Head of Service, Rivers State, Dr. Inyingi S. I. Brown.

Earlier today, I paid a visit to Miss Amos Joy, a burn victim from the Bille Community, who is currently receiving intensive medical treatment at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt.

Upon receiving the distressing news of her condition, our administration took immediate action. I am deeply thankful to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Nwachukwu, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof. Chizindu Alikor, and our exceptional team of specialists and nurses who responded swiftly to evacuate and stabilize her.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the welfare of every Rivers citizen remains our highest priority. To ensure Miss Joy receives the critical care needed to prevent complications and make a full recovery, the Rivers State Government will fully cover the cost of her medical treatment.

Seeing her stabilized and making progress gives us great optimism. We stand with Miss Joy and her family during this challenging time, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to a government that truly cares, listens, and acts for its people.

To God be the glory!

Today, I declared open the three-day Capacity-Building Training Programme for all Permanent Secretaries in the Rivers State Public Service.

My sincere appreciation goes to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, for his unwavering commitment to strengthening our public service and for approving this crucial initiative.

As the theme "From Custodians of Process to Drivers of Transformation", suggests, staying committed to due process, professionalism, and administrative rules is vital, but it is only the foundation. We must now actively embrace innovation, strategic thinking, accountability, and result-oriented leadership. The people of Rivers State expect and deserve a public service that is efficient, responsive, and capable of delivering tangible results.

I charge all participants to take this training seriously, engage actively, and maximize the rich experience of our facilitators. Most importantly, I urge you to translate the insights gained here into practical, impactful improvements across your respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
