Senator Nwaka Hands over to Chief Onuigbo
SENATOR NWAKA HANDS OVER TO CHIEF ONUIGBO:
The immediate- past chairman of the Peoples' Democratic Party in Abia State, Senator Emma Nwaka, has formally handed the leadership of the Party in the state over to the newly- elected chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo. In a very colourful ceremony that was attended by many political heavy weights such as the immediate-past State Deputy Chairman of the Party, Chief Allen Nwachukwu, a former Deputy Speaker in the State House of Assembly, Barr Chinedum Elechi, a Commissioner in Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Chief Uche Mpama, Senator Nwaka started by thanking Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and former governor of the state, Senator T A Orji for the role each of them had played in order to advance the fortunes of the great Party in the state. The out gone Chairman confidently and proudly stated that he was handing over a rancour-free Party to his successor. He went further to assert that his administration had paid the staff of the Party up to the month of April 2016 and that the Party was not owing any arrears to the landlord of the Secretariat. An elated Sen Nwaka also informed the new leadership of the Party that his regime succeeded in acquiring a portion of land where a permanent secretariat would be developed for the use of the Party. Unlike many leadership that hand over only liabilities to their successor, Senator Nwaka announced that his administration was leaving the sum of four million naira in the Party's bank account. The N4m was indeed, money in the Endowment Fund for the families of those that had died in that ghastly motor accident. Thanks to my friend; the Chairman of Abia State Board of Internal Revenue, Chief Udo Ogbonna, who was quietly present at the event and had listened with rapt attended informed the new State Executive Committee that money that had accrued to the state Chapter during the last general election from the national was still with the national leadership at Abuja and would easily be accessed by the new leadership in the state. All Sen Nwaka said verbally was finally handed over in black and white to the new chairman, including documented evidence of those elected in the recently-held congresses, starting from the wards, local governments to the state. On a very sad note, Senator Nwaka regretted the death of some Party faithfuls who had died in late 2014 when they were returning from an assignment in Awka in Anambra state. He told members that an endowment fund had been established in order to assist the families of the deceased. Like the father he is and in an emotion-soaked mood, he pleaded with the new Executive to sustain the endowment just as he requested that the new Executive retains the services of the Party's staff. Sen Nwaka did not hesitate to inform the new leadership that beneficiaries of the Party who had been elected on the platform of the Party hardly assisted the Party financially. In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Chief Onuigbo, expressed immense gratitude to the leadership of the immediate-past Executive. He assured that with the calibre of men and women that the new State Exco is composed of, nothing, by God's grace, would make his team not to succeed in leading the Party to greater heights. On behalf of the State executive committee, Chief Onuigbo made it clear that the Party leadership would work very loyally and diligently with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the leader of the Party in the state. The state legal Adviser, Barr I Omenihu, gave the vote of thanks. Amongst members of the new state Executive Committee that witnessed the ceremony were the State Deputy Chairman, Chief P C Onyegbu, Chief Obinna Nwachukwu state Vice ChairmanAbia Central, Hon Mathew Ibe, State Vice Chairman Abia North, Chief Ibe Nwadioha state secretary, Hon Stella Igbokwe State Woman Leader and Mrs Love Ezema Asst Publicity Secretary.
