RGM: RESOLVES LINGERING DIFFERENCES IN LEADERSHIP OF RGM BONNY LGA CHAPTER

Earlier today, acting on the mandate of the National Leader of the Rivers Grassroot Movement RGM), High Chief Amb. Sobomabo Jackrich “EGBERIPAPA,” I had the esteemed honour of brokering reconciliation within the Leadership of Bonny LGA Chapter of the Movement.

The lingering differences between the State Representative and the LGA Coordinator, particularly over leadership roles and responsibilities, were amicably resolved through the intervention of the state leadership.

For clarity, both positions are distinct but complementary. The State Representative provides overall leadership, guidance and advisory oversight, while the LGA Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and operations of the Movement at the LGA level. Both offices are expected to work hand in hand in the interest of the Movement.

The meeting also witnessed the appointment of Ms. Hart Ibitoru as Bonny LGA Women’s Leader.

Present at the reconciliation were Archbishop Rohi Immanuel, State Representative; Comrade Jumbo M. Boma, LGA Coordinator; Dr. Mrs. Elsie Williams; Sir Ibietonye Maxwell; Evang. Godwin S. Jumbo; Ilanye Jumbo; Peace W. Pepple; Tamunoyeke Samuel Jumbo; and Hart Ibitoru.

The successful reconciliation reaffirms our commitment to unity, mutual respect and collective purpose.

Mr Speaker, it is my pleasure to present the 2026 Rivers State Appropriation Bill to the Honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for your consideration and passage into law.

3.Most significantly, our State has remained fiscally stable, thanks to our commitment to fiscal responsibility, prudence, and accountability in managing public funds.

4.We do not tolerate mismanagement at any level and have wisely utilised public funds to provide services, attract investment, create jobs, and offer socio-economic opportunities for our people.

5. Honourable Speaker, with these introductory remarks, I proceed to present the highlights of our 2026 Draft Budget.

19.Mr Speaker, we present to this Honourable House a budget that reflects the needs and aspirations of our people - a budget that will deliver for all residents of Rivers State.

21.At the core of this budget is our commitment to infrastructure development – including new investments, the completion of ongoing road projects, and the maintenance of existing roads and bridges.

20.We have also allocated an exceptionally large budget to education, aiming to reshape the future of our State's education systems to achieve better outcomes.

21.Mr Speaker, the 2026 budget is not just about allocating funds to specific socio-economic sectors. Instead, it is a people-centred budget that acts as a blueprint for progress and service delivery, outlining a vision for a better future. It will bring tangible benefits to every ward, local government area, and resident.

22.As a government, we remain committed to getting the essentials right and building a state where all residents, regardless of background, receive the services they deserve.

23.We will ensure every kobo is spent wisely to deliver services, attract investment, create jobs, and provide opportunities for our people to flourish.

24.Speaker, the collective interests of our State and people are more important than any other consideration.

25.Therefore, as we present this budget today, we must recognise our shared responsibility to act deliberately to accelerate development and recover as much lost ground as possible.

26.As leaders, it is our collective duty to ensure every kobo is spent where it is most needed and to deliver on our mandates to the people!

27.Let us therefore join hands, united in purpose, to ensure Rivers State continues to stand out as a bastion of good governance and accountability.

28.In conclusion, although we acknowledge the delay in preparing the budget, we assure a strong implementation, consistent with our commitment to accountability, transparency, and responsible management of public resources.

29.I urge all honourable members, regardless of political affiliation, to support and approve this budget.

30.I hereby table the Rivers State Budget for the 2026 financial year for consideration and enactment into law.

GOVERNOR FUBARA COMMENDS NIGERIA ARMY, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR NATION SECURITY

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation, particularly in the fight against crime, crude oil theft, and the protection of critical national assets.

Governor Fubara gave the commendation on Friday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at Government House, Port Harcourt, ahead of the Nigerian Army's 163rd Anniversary Celebration scheduled to be hosted in Rivers State.

The Governor noted that the Army's sustained operations against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering have contributed significantly to improved security around oil and gas facilities, resulting in increased crude oil production and enhanced national revenue.

He also lauded the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and efforts toward strengthening national security and improving the welfare of officers and personnel of the Nigerian Army.

Governor Fubara described the decision to host the Nigerian Army's 163rd Anniversary Celebration in Rivers State as a strong vote of confidence in the prevailing peace and stability in the state. He reiterated his administration's commitment to collaborating with the military and other security agencies to sustain peace, protect lives and property, and create an enabling environment for economic growth and development.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said his visit formed part of activities lined up for the Army's 163rd Anniversary Celebration. He disclosed that the event would host Chiefs of Army Staff from 21 African countries, alongside other distinguished guests, including former Presidents and the Vice President of Nigeria.

The Army Chief expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara for the Rivers State Government's consistent support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the 6 Division, through the provision and upgrade of critical infrastructure and facilities. He reaffirmed the Army's commitment to partnering with the Rivers State Government in promoting peace, security, and national development.

"We will continue to support the governor of Rivers state, His Excellency , Sir Siminialaye Fubara till the end of his tenure because he's an Icon of good governance. From the beginning, we didn't support the governor because he was a good politician. We supported him because he was and still a good administrator who seamlessly delivered the much needed good governance to Rivers people in an atmosphere devoid of intimidation, oppression and segregation. Nobody is happy with what has happened, but only the governor knows what transpired and maybe at the appropriate time, he might decide to author a book where the intricacies of power play could be unfolded. Let me still reiterate, that a governor who, for the first time in our national existence, conducted a local government election against all odds without the participation of any security agencies in the land can never be described as a weak governor. Even the bible says, that wisdom is profitable to direct. Let us continue to pray for the governor, his family and our dear state, for God is not an author of confusion and His ways are not the ways of man".

RIVERS GRASSROOT MOVEMENT (RGM) HOLDS STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP MEETING, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRACY, UNITY, AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

In view of recent political developments in Rivers State and across the country, leaders of the Rivers Grassroot Movement (RGM), comprising State Representatives, LGA Coordinators, and Women Leaders from the twenty-three (23) Local Government Areas of Rivers State, gathered at the residence of the National Leader of the Movement, High Chief Amb. Sobomabo Jackrich “Egberipapa”, for a crucial leadership meeting aimed at reviewing the political situation and charting a common path forward for the Movement.

The strategic meeting provided an opportunity for leaders to deliberate extensively on the state of affairs in Rivers State, strengthen internal unity, and build broad consensus that will advance the collective interest of both the Movement and the people of Rivers State.

The Rivers Grassroot Movement (RGM), a grassroots-driven socio-political movement with membership cutting across party lines, remains steadfast in its commitment to the defence of democracy, promotion of good governance, and preservation of peace, justice, and equity in Rivers State.

Following far-reaching consultations and deliberations, leaders of the Movement unanimously resolved that the official position of the RGM on unfolding political developments will be made public at the appropriate time. Members and supporters are therefore urged to remain calm, patient, vigilant, and not fall prey to the deceptive tactics and political gimmicks of desperate politicians with a long-standing reputation for “use and dump” politics.

As the political landscape ahead of 2027 gradually unfolds, the Movement remains united, focused, and committed to taking strategic decisions that will ultimately safeguard the collective interest of Rivers State and its people.
