I, Chief Godswill Uche Nwanorue, Honourable Commissioner for Transport, on behalf of my family, Management and Staff of the Ministry, heartily felicitate the Executive Governor, Dr. Victor Chibuikem Okezie Ikpeazu and his family, the State Executive Council Members, the National and State LawMakers of Abia State origin,Abia State Chapters of the NURTW, RTEAN, NARTO, Cooperative Motor Union, Tricycle and Motorcycle Operators Associations, State and Inter-State Mass Transit Operators, Special Trade Groups, Stakeholders in the Transport Sector, and indeed all Road Users, as they celebrate the 2022 EASTER in safety and love of one another.

Remember, speed and recklessness kills. Ensure your vehicle is in good conditions before using it. Travel safe to meet your loved ones. Do not drink and drive. if you must drink, do not drive. Live has no duplicate.

Motor Spare Parts Dealers in the State have been enjoined to deal on genuine materials only, or face sanction from the government.

The Commissioner for Transport, Chief Godswill Uche Nwanoruo made this public while addressing Chairmen and Secretaries of *Special Trade*, comprising of Motor Spare Parts Dealers,Auto-mechanics, Auto-electricians, Car Painters, Motor Dealers, Tyre Sellers and Vulcanizers operating at different locations in Aba and Umuahia.

Chief Nwanoruo lamented against selling of expired or sub-standard Motor Spare Parts, especially Tyres, to unsuspecting motorists, as that could lead to road mishaps, including loss of lives and property.

He informed them that every dealer will obtain a *special trade permit* and be accredited by the Ministry periodically, for easy identification,and assess assistance from the government and other agencies.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Mr Nayo Okeke thanked the Commissioner and his Management for the warm receiption accorded them, assuring that they will reciprocate the sense of belonging shown them by the Ministry by complying with government directives on their operations.

He however appealed that their group, which is made up of youths, be assisted with government grants to boost their business.

In a vote of thanks, the Vice President, Progressive Motor Spare Parts, Aba, Mr Obumneke Nnorom, on behalf of their members, thanked the Commissioner and his Management for the meeting, during which they now know their parent Ministry.
He pledged their loyalty and support to the Ministry of Transport.

The meeting which was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Clara Okere and other Management Staff of the Ministry, also had in attendance, Prince Fidelis Nnadi, a Consultant on Accident Prevention Initiative.

PRESS RELEASE

The Commissioner for Transport Chief Godswill Uche Nwanoruo (Opara-Ukwu) has reiterated government willingness to partner groups to ensure that Abia attached her desired position as number one in all spheres) Sectors.

Commissioner Nwanoruo who made this public in his office during a Solidarity visit to him by the executives of International Traders Association and Ultimate Importers Association enumerated measures undertaken by Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD to ensure conducive environment for developers to include rehabilitation of roads, provision of infrastructure , and Security among others.

The Transport Boss called on the Associations to partner with the Ministry in the development of some parcels of land earmarked as Trailer Transit Parks at strategic locations in major cities of the State, assuring that the Parks when constructed will have Warehouses and other Source amenities within to solve parking space issues for the Association.

Chief Nwanoruo however frowned at the blocking of some roads/Streets in Aba and Umuahia with heavy duty trucks, thereby constituting traffic gridlock and accidents at times, and therefore enjoined the twin Associations to advise their drivers and members to strictly adhere to traffic rules regulating their operations to minimize fracas between them and the Special Duty Taskforce monitoring the articulated vehicles.

The leaders however pleaded for understanding between their workers and the government Special Duty Taskforce to avoid fracas of any kind.

In a vote of thanks, a member of the executive of the Association and Traditional Ruler, Eze Dr Hardy Onwuegbulam pledged their unalloyed loyalty to government and assured of a better working relationship with their workers and that of government taskforce in other to maintain the existing peace in the State.

The climax of the visit which was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Ijeoma Clara Okere and top management staff, was a special prayer for the Government and Abians in general.

GOVERNMENT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

The Abia State ministry of transport has reiterated the commitment of the State Government towards enforcing the restriction order of movement of Heavy Duty/Articulated Vehicles into the Metropolitan Cities of Aba and Umuahia.
To this end, Monday, the 14th day of February 2022 given as the deadline for compliance remains in force.
All 911 vehicles, and other heavy duty/articulated vehicle operators are advised to strictly comply with this directive as failure to do so will attract severe sanctions.

The Governor,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said Govt will no longer tolerate situations where Charlatans continue to create panic in the state through unlawful harassment of person in the guise of illegal and unlawful revenue collection.

Dr Ikpeazu who gave the warning while declaring open a one day Stakeholder's Summit organized by the Ministry of Transport with the theme " Streaming The Multiplicity Of Taskforces In Abia State held at the Women Development Centre Umuahia pointed out that the multiplicity Of Taskforces operating on our roads, to a very large extent, hampers the ease of doing business while Government will do it's best to eliminate every adverse effect preventing investors from coming into the state to do business.

The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu commended the leadership of the Ministry of Transport for organizing the summit which he described as first of its kind, pointed out that checkmating the activities of multiplicity of Taskforces will not only enhance the State's rating in the ease of doing business among the 36 states of the country, but help shur up the state's IGR.

He called on the organizers and Allied sectors of the summit to make sure that they build up the willpower and courage that will enable them enforce the recommendations arrived at the end of the summit while they should not hesitate to call on Govt in areas of assistance, while expressing optimism that they will come up with wonderful resolutions that will be of benefit to all.




In his address, the Commissioner for Transport,Chief Uche Nwanoruo said the Transport business is the engine of sustainable socio economic growth and development of any nation and stressed the need for all to join in effectively and efficiently manage the environmental implementation to mitigate its negative consequences.

Chief Nwanoruo said the menace of multiplicity of Taskforces in the state often result to loss of lives, collecting the revenue into wrong hands and private pockets, breeds corruption, Intimidation of road users and inadvertently portray the state in bad light and reiterates that the need for a good and effective Transport system in Abia State cannot be over emphasized.

In his remark, the Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice Chief Uche Ihediwa represented by Agbai Iro Ogbuabia while citing the overview of Abia State Road Traffic and Management Law, 2010, as amended, underscored the importance of transportation noting that transport and logistics play significant role in the present world and remains key component of developmental infrastructure from one location to another.

In her address also , the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Mrs Ijeoma Clara Okere said the era of disgruntled elements parading themselves as members of Task Forces in Aba and Umuahia will cease to exist and disclosed that the Governor, Dr Okezie lkpeazu has directed that, henceforth, all Task Force groups must be identified and approved by Govt.

The Summit which featured a lecture presentation titled" Streamlining The Multiplicity Of Task Forces In The State Transport Sector by Prof Calistus Ibe as well as goodwill messages from representatives of major stakeholders in the Transport Sector in the State attracted the presence of top Govt Officials, Service Chiefs and various Transporters operating in the State.
