Earlier today, the Chairman, Prof. George N. Chima, and the Commissioners of the Commission held a meeting with the Stakeholders towards the 2nd November 2024 Local Government Elections in Abia State.
In attendance were the heads of security agencies in Abia State, Chairmen and candidates from various political parties, the Coalition of Observers, and members of the press.
Stakeholders promised to comply in making the Chairmanship/Councillorship Elections a success come Saturday the 2nd day of November, 2024.
The meeting came to a close with the signing of a Peace Accord by the ABSIEC Chairman, Abia State Commissioner of Police on behalf of the security agencies in Abia State, the IPAC Chairman, and all the participating political party Chairmen.

The monthly Interactive Training/Seminar for the year came to an end with some topical issues discussed.
At the event was the Chairman of the Commission Prof. George N. Chima, the Commissioner in charge of Information, Training and Voter Education Hon. Dr. Kelechi Kemjika Okere, the Commissioner in charge of Planning, Research and Statistics Hon. Chief Joseph Uzoma Akara, the Commissioner in charge of Finance, Marketing and Pensions Hon Mrs Ekele Queen Ahuchaogu, the Commissioner in charge of Local Government and Field Services Hon Decon. Bertha Ehumadu and the Commissioner in charge of Works/Transport Hon Nkemdirim Kalu. Also in attendance were the Director of Administration The Rev. Geoffrey Madugba, Electoral Officer in charge of Local Governments, Heads of Departments/Units and other staff of the Commission.

PRESS RELEASE

Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to conduct Local Government Elections on Saturday, 2nd November, 2024 in all the 184 Independent National Electoral Commission wards of the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

The Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. George.N.Chima disclosed this today in a meeting with the Chairmen and Secretaries of registered political parties at ABSIEC headquarters, Ogurube Layout Umuahia while officially unveiling the timetable for the Local Government Elections.

Prof. Chima affirmed the Commission's determination to conduct a free, fair, credible and unpolluted elections that will be accepted by Abians .
He therefore called on party Stakeholders to nominate and screen credible candidates who will play according to the rules as the elections will no longer be business as usual.

In his response, the IPAC Chairman, Mr. Nelson Uluocha, thanked and congratulated ABSIEC Chairman and Commissioners for opening their doors for further deliberations and assured that the 19 registered political parties in Abia State will work with them harmoniously to the success of 2024 Local Government elections.

The meeting featured questions and answers from the Stakeholders and gentlemen of the press.
