As part of Denmark’s economic diplomacy, supporting digital transformation and innovation across sectors is a key priority in our engagement with Nigeria.
It was therefore a pleasure to return to Enugu to participate in the Enugu Tech Festival, which brought together policymakers, innovators, investors and development partners to discuss the future of technology and innovation in the region. The festival was attended by our Consul General, Jette Bjerrum alongside a Nordic delegation led by the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Anna Westerholm.
During the festival, the keynote address by the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, highlighted the state’s ambition to position Enugu as a regional hub for innovation, investment and digital development.
The focus on digital infrastructure, smart city development, innovation ecosystems and human capital development reflects the importance of an integrated approach to sustainable economic growth.
On the sidelines of the festival, we had the pleasure of engaging with key representatives of the Enugu State Government, including Prof. George Ugwu, Commissioner for Health; Mr. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation; and Dr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology. We also met with Mr. Kenechukwu Nnamani, Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority (ESIDA).
The visit also highlighted opportunities for cooperation with Nordic partners. Danish expertise in areas such as sustainable agriculture and food systems, digital health, cold chain logistics, green energy, water solutions and digitalisation can contribute to strengthening value chains and supporting economic development. We also explored connections to logistics corridors linked to APM Terminals Onne and investment opportunities through Investment Fund for Developing Countries with Impact Fund Denmark.
We look forward to continuing the dialogue and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between Denmark and Enugu State as the state’s digital and economic transformation continues.

We were pleased to visit the tractor assembly and training facility of Danish-owned company NORTRA Tractors in Enugu State and to see the significant progress being made.
The facility represents an important step in strengthening agricultural mechanisation and supporting local industrial capacity in Nigeria. Once fully operational, the centre is expected to contribute to increased productivity across the agricultural value chain while supporting job creation, technical skills development, and local manufacturing.
We look forward to following the continued progress of the facility and its contribution to strengthening Denmark–Nigeria business cooperation.

Last week in Arusha, Tanzania, authorities and experts from Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria met with colleagues from Denmark to exchange experiences on risk-based and preventive food safety control systems.
The three countries are currently at different stages of the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programmes: South Africa is entering phase 2, Kenya is in the third and final phase, while Nigeria is approaching the end of phase 1. Bringing these perspectives together created valuable discussions on common challenges, practical solutions and future priorities.
The seminar, organised by the Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) in collaboration with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, aimed to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange across countries. A key ambition is that the shared experiences from these programmes can contribute to stronger Pan-African cooperation among food safety authorities.
Our Sector Advisor for the Denmark–Nigeria Strategic Sector Cooperation, Henrik Strøh, also participated in the seminar, promoting the collaboration and contributing to the exchange of experiences from the Denmark–Nigeria partnership.
By learning from each other’s reforms and practical experiences, we move closer to more effective, risk-based and preventive food safety systems across the continent.

This week, our Defence Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Henrik Laugesen, was invited to deliver a lecture on military professionalism to students of Senior Course 48 and Junior Course 101 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna State.
The lecture examined the normative values, institutional ethos, civil-military obligations, and leadership imperatives that define professional military service within a constitutional democracy and their implications for operational effectiveness in joint and combined environments.
In attendance were Lieutenant Colonels, Majors, and Captains from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Exchanges like this reflect the depth of our defense cooperation and our shared belief that professional, accountable armed forces are essential to democratic governance and effective security operations.
We're grateful to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College for the invitation and for the thoughtful engagement throughout the session.

What a very successful week in Denmark!
Last week, we hosted our partner delegation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development - FMLD for an intensive Strategic Sector Cooperation workshop with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration Fødevarestyrelsen and a strong team of Danish experts.
The discussions were warm, open, and highly constructive. We deepened collaboration on food safety, traceability, AMR, feed & fodder, and farm/animal registration, combining Danish regulatory experience with Nigerian priorities and realities on the ground.
The workshop allowed us to fine-tune our thematic tracks and make key adjustments as we move toward Phase II of the programme. There's strong shared commitment to continue this journey of building resilient, transparent, and risk-based food and veterinary systems from farm to fork.
After days of intense deliberations, the week ended with a playful dip in the snow, and it was a well-earned cool-off after some very productive discussions.
A big thank you to all our partners, experts and participants for your dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the week. The work continues, and so does the partnership.

Last Thursday, we received a technical delegation from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Nigeria (FMMBE) to advance bilateral cooperation in the marine and blue economy.
The Danish delegation was led by Ambassador H.E. Jens Ole Bach Hansen, alongside Jette Bjerrum, Consul General; Tumi Onamade, Advisor on Sustainable Value Chains & Maritime; and Henrik Laugesen, Defence Attaché. The Nigerian delegation was led by Haj. Kalthum Ibrahim, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at FMMBE, and Prof. Busayo Fakinlede, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Marine and Blue Economy. Frederik Klinke, Vice President of EuroCham, also contributed European private sector perspectives.
Discussions centered on strengthening institutional cooperation, advancing sustainable marine initiatives, and enhancing value chains, trade competitiveness, and long-term economic growth.
As a global maritime leader, Denmark ranks 9th worldwide with 61 million operating gross tonnage and a Danish-flagged fleet of 744 vessels (as of January 2026). Shipping remains Denmark’s largest export sector with strong expertise in maritime technology and energy-efficient solutions. Nigeria, with 853 km Atlantic coastline, 10,000km of inland waterways, significant Exclusive Economic Zone and strategic Gulf of Guinea position, central role in regional trade is advancing the blue economy as a pillar of diversification and sustainable growth.
The dialogue builds on strong existing cooperation, including the Danish Gulf of Guinea Maritime Security Programme (2022–2026), which supports enhanced maritime domain awareness; and longstanding Danish commercial engagement in Nigeria, notably APM Terminals' significant investments in port and logistics.
This dialogue aligns with Denmark’s Africa Strategy, promoting equal partnerships, sustainable economic cooperation and green transition, and reinforces a shared commitment to delivering measurable impact for both countries.

Every year, an estimated 260,000 women die from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth: from bleeding, infection, and high blood pressure. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 70% of these deaths. Most tragically, the majority are preventable.
These are the numbers behind the 10 Million Safer Births initiative, launched last June in Abuja by Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
This week, Ambassador Jens Ole Bach Hansen and Senior Program Manager Hilda Ayejimiwo participated in a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting which was an important follow-up to the launch. The focus was on refining approaches that truly fit Nigeria's context, aligning with national health strategies like MAMII and NDHI, and building the right partnerships for sustainable, large-scale impact.
It was a good way of ensuring that the momentum we started with translates into meaningful, on-the-ground change. The 10 Million Safer Births is a partnership led by UNFPA and Maternity Foundation with funding from Denmark.

🇩🇰 A Streak We're Quietly Proud Of!
Denmark has been ranked the least corrupt country in the world for the eighth consecutive year, according to Transparency International's latest Corruption Perceptions Index.
Corruption undermines development, erodes public trust, and holds communities back from reaching their potential. That's why Denmark remains committed to supporting anti-corruption efforts globally.
We're honored by this recognition, but we also know the work is never done. Building and maintaining trust takes constant effort, vigilance, and a commitment to doing things the right way even when no one is watching.
Here's to integrity, transparency, and the hard work it takes to sustain them. 🇩🇰
