BYSG Charges Civil Servants to Be Proactive in-Service Delivery

The Bayelsa State Government (BYSG), through the Civil Service Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, has charged civil servants to be proactive and committed to efficient service delivery.

This directive was issued during a joint inspection exercise on compliance with work ethics across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on Tuesday, 22nd March 2026.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Buruboyefe Perekiye John, expressed concern over the level of non-compliance observed, particularly arbitrary lateness to work among staff of various ministries, parastatals, and agencies. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate such behaviour and warned that any officer found wanting will face appropriate disciplinary action.

He further advised civil servants across ministries, parastatals, and MDAs to adopt proper work ethics and maintain punctuality, stressing the importance of studying and adhering to the Public Service Rules as a guide to professionalism and accountability in the Civil Service.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer, mni, reiterated that the Prosperity Government will not condone lateness and indiscipline in the workforce. He urged workers to remain punctual, dedicated, and proactive in the discharge of their duties to enhance productivity and service delivery across the state.

Dr. Sawyer further reaffirmed government developmental strides and sustained commitment to the welfare of civil servants. He highlighted key initiatives such as the regular and prompt payment of salaries and pensions, timely promotion, Christmas bonuses, training and retraining programmes, improved welfare packages, and capacity-building initiatives. He also noted the recent construction of the iconic nine-storey secretariat complex aimed at providing a more conducive working environment for state civil servants.

The joint inspection underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening discipline, efficiency, and accountability within the Bayelsa State Civil Service.

SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION FOR CANDIDATES WHO COULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE JUST CONCLUDED CIVIL SERVICE RECRUITMENT EXAMINATION

The Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission has fixed Thursday, 12th of June, 2025 (2.PM to 3.PM) for the conduct of supplementary examination into the State Civil Service.

The Supplementary Examination is to be conducted for ONLY Candidates who experienced difficulties and could not log in and participate in the just concluded Examination of 10th June, 2025.

While the Commission recognizes the little glitches and difficulties initially faced by candidates in their attempt to take part in the examination, it considers the examination relatively successful as 72% of the total accredited candidates successfully logged in and participated with results already collated.

However, it also considers it important, for the sake of fairness and equal opportunity, to allow the remaining 28% have access and participate in the examination.

It therefore, warns that ONLY Candidates who do not log in and participate in the earlier examination are allowed to take part in the supplementary examination.

ANY Candidate who violate this rule shall be automatically disqualified.

CANDIDATES ARE TO USE THEIR EXISTING USERNAME AND PASSWORD FOR THE SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION.

THEY ARE ALSO REQUESTED TO OBSERVE THE EXAMINATION RULES AS THE COMMISSION SHALL NOT CONDUCT ANY OTHER EXAM AFTER THIS.

UPDATE ON THE BAYELSA STATE CIVIL SERVICE MOCK EXAMINATIONS

The Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission sends its appreciation to candidates who took part in the recently concluded Mock Examinations of 3rd June, 2025, as part of processes for the recruitment of candidates into the Bayelsa State Civil Service. It also appreciates the enthusiasm of candidates, which was demonstrated by the high turn-out rate of candidates for the exams.

The Commission identified some challenges faced by candidates in the Mock Exams. Two major challenges were the NON-OBSERVANCE OF RULES OF THE EXAMS earlier published by the Commission and the MISMATCH BETWEEN CANDIDATES’ NAME AND PHONE NUMBER earlier submitted, which provided a sound basis for the conduct of the Mock Exams.
