‎Gov. Diri Fulfils Promise, Inaugurates Vehicle For States' Residents Doctors

‎~ reaffirms commitment to Doctors welfare

‎In fulfillment of the promise made to the medical community, the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri has officially inaugurated a vehicle for the State Residents' Doctors Association, demonstrating his administration's unwavering commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of healthcare professionals.

‎During their visit to the Governor on his 170th Executive Council Meeting, the resident doctors association emphasized the need for a vehicle to aide their mobility and the Governor immediately approved and has today fulfilled his promise in giving the vehicle to the association.

‎Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Governor represented by the State Health Commissioner, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe emphasized the critical role resident doctors play in delivering quality healthcare services across the state.

‎He noted that the provision of the vehicle is aimed at enhancing the association's operational efficiency and supporting its activities in the interest of both members and the public.

‎The Commissioner reiterated the Prosperity administration's dedication to prioritizing the welfare of doctors and other healthcare workers, recognizing their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to the health sector.

‎He assured members of the association that government would continue to implement policies and initiatives designed to improve their working environment, professional development, and overall well-being.

‎"The inauguration marks another significant step in the prosperity administration's efforts to support healthcare professionals and improve the state's healthcare system through meaningful investments in human and institutional capacity", Prof. Brisibe added.

‎Representatives of the State Residents' Doctors Association, Dr. Ebibode Nathaniel Owotorufa expressed appreciation for the Governor's fulfillment of the promise, describing the gesture as a testament to his responsiveness to the needs of healthcare workers.

‎They pledged their continued commitment to providing quality medical services and collaborating with government to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state as they continue more in their efforts to .

Health Reforms: Yesterday, joined by the members of the Non-Profit Networking Alliance of African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) we held a strategic meeting with His Excellency the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Pastor Pereotubo Akpe in his office and discussed important health reform factors for the growth of the States' health sector.

‎The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), draws technical and financial support from the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and has been supporting the Bayelsa States' Primary Health Care Board(BYSPHCB) since 2024.

‎The group(AFENET) largely collaborated with the State in the roll-out and implementation of Malaria Vaccines, optimization of outreach sessions which culminated in the immunization of over 18,000 children across the State in three cycles.

‎As a Ministry, having known the importance of collaboration we thanked and assured the Association of African Field Epidemiology Network(AFENET) and other partners a better working relationship to further increase and improve the life expectancy, and importantly the healthcare delivery in the State.

‎The State government under the leadership of His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri has indeed pushed forward remarkable health reforms through legislative frameworks(past and present) all for the development of the health sector of the State and as a Ministry we thank the Governor and his deputy for their great collaborations.

During the meeting, I was joined by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jones Stow, Director of Public Health, Dr. Ebikapaye Okoyen, States' Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Williams Appah, Dr. Gbanabulou Oweifa, Director Disease Control and Immunization, W.H.O State Coordinator, Dr. Marcus Oluwadare, and other very important health personnel.

‎Prosperity Govt@6: Yesterday, as part of activities marking the 6th Anniversary of the prosperity administration, led by the Governor, His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, the State Ministry of Health, under the leadership the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe embarked on a medical outreach to Ogbotobo comment in Ekeremor LGA, to further demonstrate the State government’s commitment to accessible and quality healthcare for all citizens, regardless of location.

‎The outreach provided free medical consultations, treatments, medications, health screenings, surgeries, and sensitization services to residents of the remote communities who often face challenges accessing healthcare facilities.

‎Speaking during the outreach, the Health Commissioner, Prof. Brisibe reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue expanding healthcare interventions across the state, especially to underserved areas.

‎Prof. Brisibe highlighted that the exercise reflects the administration’s unwavering dedication to improving the wellbeing of people at the grassroots and ensuring that no community is left behind in the delivery of essential health services

‎He noted that the 6-year milestone is not only a celebration of achievements recorded so far, but also a renewed commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the lives of the people.

‎Residents of the benefiting communities expressed appreciation to the government for bringing healthcare services directly to their doorsteps and called for sustained interventions in the creeks and other hard-to-reach areas.

‎The Health Commissioner was also joined by the Ekeremor local government Chairman, Hon. Oniye Ndiwari, at Ogbotobo as the Chairman thanked His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, the Health Commissioner, for reaching out to the underserved communities for health interventions.

‎Africa Vaccination Week 2026:
No child should die from vaccine preventable diseases, says Prof. Brisibe

‎~ reaffirms commitment, thanks Gov. Diri, Deputy

‎The Bayelsa State Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, has reaffirmed the Prosperity Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that no child dies from vaccine preventable diseases.

‎Speaking today at the popular Swali market immediately after the Prosperity Road Walk commemorating the 2026 African Vaccination Week in Yenagoa, the Commissioner emphasized that the collective goal of the government, health workers, and citizens is to safeguard the lives of children through proactive healthcare interventions, particularly immunization.

‎He expressed deep appreciation to ES and Staff of the Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board, staff of the Ministry of Health and all implementing partners who took part in the prosperity walk and awareness campaign of the Africa Vaccination Week.

‎Reiterating the vision of the Prosperity Government, the Commissioner lauded Gov. Douye Diri and his Deputy for their prowess in healthcare development, and highlighting the administration’s focus on increasing life expectancy and improving the overall quality of life for all Bayelsans.

‎He urged community members to spread the message and encourage participation, stressing that the success of the campaign depends on collective action, the ongoing health initiatives, including the immunization campaign, all are critical pillars in achieving these objectives.

‎According to him, "as the Ministry marks Africa Vaccination Week, designated teams aimed at reaching all children, both in and out of school are set in place. Also as part of the exercise, health teams have been deployed to markets to ensure easy access to immunization services".

‎Prof. Brisibe encouraged parents and guardians to bring their children for vaccination, even if it requires temporarily leaving their business activities as the initiative also includes targeted vaccination for young girls to prevent future health conditions such as cervical cancer, other diseases.

‎In his words: I assure you all that the vaccines administered are safe, effective, and designed solely to prevent diseases, protect against illnesses such as malaria, tuberculosis, measles, and cervical cancer, thereby promoting healthier communities.

‎The Commissioner was joined by the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board, Chief Dr Williams Appah, State Coordinator of W.H.O, Dr. Marcus Oluwadare, Executive Secretary, BHIS, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah, partners and staff.
Various messages in local dialects were made by partners, with a passionate appeal to all market men and women to support the initiative by allowing health workers to vaccinate their children.

Highlights of the activity were the Vaccination of eligible children and the traders dancing alongside the team, showing their support for Immunization
