He noted that WASH indicators have historically been poor, worsened by insecurity and insurgency that have destroyed essential facilities. Access to basic toilets and safe water remains limited, leaving many households vulnerable to preventable diseases.
He further stressed that the humanitarian crisis across the region is alarming, with Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States recording acute malnutrition rates of 15–20.9% in at least 17 LGAs conditions worsened by poor sanitation and constrained livelihoods.
Despite these challenges, Hon. Audu reassured the public of the State Government’s commitment to transforming the sanitation landscape. Guided by the 2023–2025 Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS), Adamawa is aligning its efforts with Nigeria’s National Development Plan and Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
He expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for prioritizing sanitation investment, while acknowledging the funding gaps that remain. He also commended national and international WASH partners for supporting progress toward ensuring that every household has access to safe toilets and clean water.
