WHO celebrates COVID-19 Survivors in Adamawa State
The world health organisation (WHO) has celebrated forty-two survivors of COVID-19 in Adamawa State.
The event, which took place at the newly commissioned ‘infectious Disease Centre, Yola Specialist Hospital today Tuesday described the survivors as Heroes and Heroines, including health workers who have placed themselves in high-risk positions to save the lives of others from the dreaded pandemic.
The Adamawa State commissioner for health, professor Abdullahi Isa, who spoke on behalf of the chairman of the Containment Committee, Dr Bashiru Ahmad who doubles the secretary to the Government thanked the development partners like the World Health Organization, UNICEF as well as the health workers who have been on frontrunner of containing the pandemic.
The commissioner said the 42 survivors of COVID-19 have become the symbol of hope as they have defeated the virus.
The Director, Public Health, Adamawa State ministry of health, Dr Bolki Dilli and the world Health organization representative, pharmacist Iyobosa Igbinovia both emphasised that COVID-19 is real and there is the need for anyone that experience strange symptoms like dry-throat, sneezing, Lost of taste to call for immediate medical attention.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Commissions Infectious Disease Center
The Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Finitr has commissioned an infectious disease center ( state isolation/treatment center) in Yola The Adamawa State capital today 11th June 2020.
The health facility located at Specialist Hospital Yola, the State capital was renovated by The Adamawa State Government.
Performing the commissioning, Governor Fintiri said this was part of the State's Government commitment towards flattening the curve of the deadly Corona Virus. He also commended the efforts of the COVID-19 Adamawa Containment Committee led by Ahmad Bashiru (Secretary to the State Government) for supervising the completion of the Centre.

The Governor has eased restrictions on places of worship and other forms of social gatherings after an evaluation suggested that the contagion rate of Covid-19 has been low in the state.
No gatherings shall exceed 50 people and all entry points must ensure proper hand hygiene, temperature checks and social distancing. The 8pm to 6am curfew is still in place with this new development.
We urge the general public to remain conscious and follow all health and safety guidelines on Covid-19.

FIRST SET OF ALMAJIRIS REPATRIATED TO GOMBE BY THE ADAMAWA STATE GOVERNMENT AS PART OF COVID 19 RESPONSE
The Adamawa State Government has commenced the repatriation of Almajiris to their families in other states. The first set of 135 Almajiris have been transported to Gombe onboard 11 Adamawa Sunshine buses with tight security as part of the agreement that was reached by the Northern Governors Forum regarding the Almajiris. The decision was made inorder to achieve two goals; to protect the vulnerable group of Almajiris amidst the outbreak of Covid-19 and to help start the process that would end the Almajiri system all and all.
Present at the send off of the Almajiris was Mal. Bashiru Ahmad the Chairman of the Adamawa Covid 19 Containment Committee who also serves as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Commissioner of Education Mrs Wabina Jackson, District Head of Jimeta Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Baba along with other government officials were also present. The Chairman of the Adamawa Covid 19 Containment Committee remarked to journalist that this process is the initial phase of permanently ending the Almajiri system in the region and the state would no longer condone the system of Almajiri even after the pandemic.
The chairman also remarked that Adamawa state also received Almajiris from other parts of the region namely; Gombe, Nasarawa and Kaduna states as part of state governments commitment for repatriation. The Almajiris will be properly rehabilitated and cared for by the state. Finally the chairman remarked about the importance of the cooperation of the Almajiri teachers for the sustainable success of the process.

Five patients were discharged from the isolation center in Kofare that was donated to the state government by Bishop Makanto. The discharged patients include the index case of the state and four others.
The index case was admitted on the 22nd of April and discharged on 11th May after spending 19 days in the isolation center.
The patients were discharged as hail and hearty, the doctors gave assurance that the patients were tested negative twice for covid-19 and are therefore eligible to resume their normal lives out of quarantine.
The Governor also inspected the ongoing renovation at an additional isolation center at the Specialist Hospital Yola.
We urge the general public to kindly accept the discharged patients and refrain from associating any form of stigma on to them or their families.
Proper hand hygiene, social distancing and the wearing of Face-masks remain the best mitigation against Covid-19.
