We are pleased to share that a scholarly article entitled “Kalu Kumale and the Aesthetics of Wrath: Sculptural Practice, Affective Labor, and Cultural Resilience in Contemporary Nepal” by Nabraj Lama has been published in the Global Journal of Cultural Studies (Vol. 4, 2025).

This important study critically explores the life, work, and legacy of Kalu Kumale, one of Nepal’s most influential sculptors. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as affect theory and postcolonial aesthetics, the article examines how Kumale’s art—especially pieces like The Co**se of Sati Devi and Two Farmers Fighting—engages with personal grief, communal memory, and socio-political realities.
