किसिपिडी कालिका भैरव जात्रा २०८१

Kisipidi Jatra is a vibrant cultural festival celebrated in Kisipidi, a Newar settlement located within Chandragiri Municipality, approximately 10 kilometers west of Kathmandu, Nepal. The name "Kisipidi" is believed to have originated from the Newar words "Kisi," meaning "elephant," and "Pidi," meaning "to pay back," reflecting the community's historical role in providing elephant grass and sal wood to the royal elephants of the Hanuman Dhoka Palace.

The festival prominently features the Kalika Bhairav Jatra, dedicated to the deities Kalika and Bhairav. This celebration includes traditional rituals, processions, and cultural performances that showcase the rich heritage of the Newar community. The Jatra serves as a testament to the community's commitment to preserving their cultural identity and fostering social cohesion.

However, in recent times, Kisipidi has faced challenges such as urbanization and socio-economic changes, leading to transformations in its built environment and cultural practices. Efforts are underway to manage and preserve the cultural heritage of Kisipidi through urban design and community engagement, ensuring that traditions like the Jatra continue to thrive for future generations.
