What will be the impact of the conflict in the Middle East and the lingering effects of the September 2025 unrest on Nepal's economy?

According to the World Bank’s latest economic update, growth in Nepal is projected to slow to 2.3% in FY26 from 4.6% in FY25.

Looking ahead, reconstruction activities, continued hydropower expansion, and consumption linked to the 2027 subnational elections are expected to support a pickup in growth to an average of 4.4% over FY27–FY28.

The services sector is expected to be most affected in FY26, due to slower tourism activity, higher transport costs, and potential supply chain disruptions.
A prolonged conflict in the Middle East could dampen tourist arrivals, reduce remittance inflows, weaken consumption, and slow overall economic activity.

However, political stability post-March elections, sound macroeconomic management, strong buffers, and ongoing structural reforms can help rebuild investor confidence and strengthen private investment, , and growth.
