Proud Moment for GGN
Mr. Kiran Timalsina,Executive Program Manger proudly represented Green Governance Nepal at the prestigious IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Abu Dhabi. The congress serves as a global platform that brings together world leaders, conservation experts, and practitioners to discuss and shape policies for a sustainable and resilient planet.
During the event, Mr. Timalsina delivered an inspiring presentation on “Showcasing Nature-based Solutions from Jalthal & Bardia: Ecological Restoration and Human-Wildlife Conflict.” His presentation emphasized how local communities, through collaboration with conservation organizations, are implementing innovative, community-driven models to restore ecosystems and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts. The case studies from Jalthal and Bardia demonstrated the power of integrating ecological restoration with socio-economic development—offering a replicable approach for other regions worldwide.
This recognition at the international platform stands as a proud moment not only for Green Governance Nepal but for all who believe in the harmony between people and nature.

At Diyalo Community Forest (CF)Jhapa, a women’s group was formed and provided with fish fingerlings to support livelihood improvement and wetland management. Recently, we further supported the group by providing guidance on proper feeding practices and wetland management techniques to ensure healthy fish growth and sustainable use of wetland resources. This initiative was first introduced a few months ago.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to GEF/SGP/UNDP for supporting this initiative that beautifully integrates women’s empowerment, environmental conservation, and economic development.

After the completion of the conservation work, this wetland has transformed into a beautiful habitat where wild animals, including elephants, come to drink water. It has become a safe and refreshing place that supports the survival of many species and adds to the richness of the forest.
This success has been possible with the support of GEF/SGP/UNDP, Forest Action Nepal, and Purba Deurali CF. Their contribution has played a vital role in protecting wildlife and their natural resources.

Students from Motherland English Boarding School actively engaged in learning and exploration in the biologically diverse region of Jalthal, Jhapa have gained valuable experiences that go beyond the classroom. Through field-based learning, they were introduced to the region’s rich biodiversity, the significance of wetlands, and the challenges posed by invasive species. They learned not only about the ecological impact of such species but also about practical management techniques. This hands-on exposure allowed them to better understand the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the urgent need to protect them.
In addition to environmental knowledge, students also observed income-generating activities supported by community forests. These initiatives demonstrated how sustainable forest management can contribute to both conservation and the economic well-being of local communities. The exposure has left a strong impression on the students, helping to shape a generation that is more conscious of environmental issues and motivated to contribute to conservation and sustainability efforts in the future.
Special thanks to GEF/SGP/UNDP for the support and encouragement.
