KASTHAMANDAP PANEL
This 17th/18th Century Large Wooden Panel Stolen From MARU SATTAL, KASTHAMANDAP, KATHMANDU, After the 2015 CE Earthquake, Has Been Located in the Collection of Peter Hardt, Now Offered For Sale at Galerie Zacke, Vienna, Austria, 7 March 2025, Lot No. 122.
The Insitu Photograph Was Taken By the Huntington Archives in 1970 CE. Art Scholar Mary Slusser and Senior Archaelogist Sukra Sagar Shrestha Also Photographed the Panels and Published in an Article, "On the Loss of Cultural Heritage in Quake-Ravaged Nepal, 2016". The Photographs Were Also Published by Dipesh Risal in his Article, "Kasthamandap: Microcosm of Kathmandu’s Living Culture and Storied History, 2015".
Slusser Mentions About the Discovery of 4 Panels in her Article, Which Were Found in the Ruins of the Sattal, However This Panel Was not Found Among the Rescued Artifacts of the Sattal and Suggested that it Might Belong to Pi**he Bahal.
Discovery of This Architectural Panel Raises More Questions Than Answers. In 2015 Earthquake, Many Important Temples Were Damaged or Destroyed. How Much Could Have Been Rescued and Restored? And How Much of These Prescoius Artifacts Found Their Way Into the International Art Market?
