Two Estonian Citizens Reported Missing!!

Two Estonians have been reported missing while they were travelling back to Kathmandu after completing their Tibet tour.

Their last known location was at the Rashuwagadhi border on the 26th of August around 8:38 am.

It is speculated that they were in a group of 30 Latvians led by Raju Gurung. The Nepali tour company they arranged their trip to Tibet has not yet been identified.

An Extremely Heartbreaking and Devastating Tragedy

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the devastating news of the severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi River yesterday morning, which has caused significant loss of life and widespread damage across the country. It is an unimaginable and deeply painful tragedy.

The floods have caused extensive destruction in the riverside areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan districts. Many lives have been lost, many people are still missing, and several others have been injured. This disaster has brought immense pain and irreparable loss to many families.

In this difficult and sorrowful time, I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones. I sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and hope that everyone who remains missing will be found and rescued as soon as possible, with immediate medical care and necessary support provided to those in need.

My deepest sympathies are with all the families and communities affected by this devastating disaster.

At the same time, I would like to share with gratitude that all my family members, clients, and staff are safe. I am deeply thankful for their safety during this tragic situation.

May everyone affected by this disaster find the strength, courage, and patience to overcome this difficult time.

Her Excellency Ms. Marje Luup, Ambassador of Estonia to Nepal, visited Nepal as part of the European Union Delegation Mission from 24 to 27 May 2026. During her stay, H.E. Ambassador Luup participated in the EU Ambassadors’ high-level meeting with the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Ambassador Luup also held a separate bilateral meeting with the Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sishir Khanal.

During these meetings, Her Excellency reaffirmed the cordial and longstanding bilateral relations between Estonia and Nepal, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in diverse sectors, including tourism, information technology, and energy.

Following the completion of her official visit, Ambassador Luup departed for New Delhi, India, on 27 May 2026.

As the Honorary Consul of Estonia, it was a great honor and privilege for me to welcome Ambassador Luup to Nepal, particularly as this marked her fifth visit to the country. During her stay, Her Excellency also visited the Consulate of Estonia in Nepal.
