Commemorating International Women’s Day, the acclaimed Austrian film MEHRUNISA, produced and directed by Austrian filmmaker Sandeep Kumar, was screened in Kathmandu by the Austrian Embassy and Austrian Cultural Forum, New Delhi, in coordination with the Honorary Consulate of Austria in Nepal.
The screening, held at QFX Cinema, Chhaya Centre, was attended by 150 viewers and received an overwhelmingly positive response. The event was organized in collaboration with the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal (FWEAN), celebrating culture, storytelling, and women’s voices.

To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Austrian Embassy New Delhi, in collaboration with six Austrian Honorary Consulates across India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, present special screenings of the award-winning film Mehrunisa by Vienna-based filmmaker Sandeep Kumar.
Hosted in partnership with local women’s organizations, the screenings celebrate women’s voices, resilience and empowerment while strengthening Austrian–Indian cultural ties.
The film stars the legendary Farrukh Jaffar, who delivered her first leading performance at the age of 88, in a powerful story about reclaiming identity and challenging deeply rooted patriarchal norms.
Premiering at the International Film Festival of India, Mehrunisa has been showcased at major international festivals including Diagonale and the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, earning global recognition and awards.

The Austrian Consulate, Kathmndu will remain closed from 3rd August 2025 till 17th August 2025. During this period there will be no verification & legalization on the academic documents from the consulate & legalization on the documents required for visa processing for resident permit.
However, documents like birth certificate, marriage certificate, family relationship certificate & police clearance certificate can be legalized in the Austrian embassy, New Delhi at the time of visa application for resident permit in my absence in Nepal.
Austrian Consulate opens from 18th August 2025.
