For families living in Nepal’s hills, home is where livelihoods, communities, and futures are built. Yet every monsoon, landslides threaten to change lives overnight.
This year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction theme, "𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞,” reminds us that safer homes and prepared communities are the foundation of disaster resilience.
Through the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid funded Pratibaddha Project, we have been working with local governments and communities to shift disaster management from reactive response to proactive preparedness. From developing Disaster Preparedness and Response Plans and establishing community disaster management committees to operationalising Local Emergency Operations Centres (LEOCs), communities are strengthening their capacity to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to disasters.
Behind every disaster risk statistic is a story of resilience, collaboration, and local leadership. Together, we can build safer homes, stronger systems, and more resilient communities.
Watch how communities are turning risk into resilience.
