To remind everyone for what we stand for.

Nepal will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our sense of direction towards improving, We would be the ones who destroyed ourselves.

If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died...

SCPN's Thoughts on the Education System in Nepal - (All interested may use this document to further change it and make it better. Please do send it back to us on our email: [email protected]) This is the first draft and the basic idea of the frame work.

“We are all passer-by’s in this world where we come to learn and enjoy life, and leave as what we have become with what we have done and left for the rest.”

Education and health are the two most important aspects of growth and development for us, as personal wisdom is the universal purpose of life, and health is the maintenance of life therefore they go hand in hand.

The education system currently of Nepal is in my point of view insufficient for the people who will compete in such an advanced world. The education system I talk of firstly is not the privately owned schools but the education system provided by the government for every citizen of Nepal.

I will not describe why the current education system is bad but I will rather give a proposal for an education system that will change the very face of education in Nepal.
Schools and education were created so that the things learnt by elders could be passed on so that the human race could progress. In today’s society what we need to understand is that everybody has a different mind with different thoughts and it is specialized in some aspects where others may not be specialized in, therefore we need to have open minded individuals all around Nepal in order to become a perfect civilization.

It is a time where we have so much information to teach the future generations we must train their brains to learn and be prepared for the world which awaits them outside.

Firstly, language is and always has been the medium of understanding therefore children of the new generation should be able to speak different languages in order to learn more than what average people can, therefore three languages would be a good level to start with.

Nepali being our first language, Nepali should be a language every Nepali citizen should know. The Nepali language will teach the younger generations of our culture, traditions, art, and basically define the roots of where they come from and therefore understand themselves. Nepali should be the language of Literature and basic communication within the country.

English being one of the most widely spoken language and a language in which most of the world’s modern information rests in is a must language for survival in this world. English should be given a lot of importance for its diplomatic art, speaking population, expression of ideas to the global world.

Finally coming to the third language being a choice for the students themselves to pick from different courses offered, this allows students to learn what they wish and to define themselves in a way they want like never before therefore being the third language students will know.

Now that language has been covered, it comes to the other basic of knowledge’s, Mathematics. In my perception mathematics allows people to research and develop, understand and reason and therefore being a subject a person should be very good at.

Mathematics in Nepal should be taught from a very young age to train young minds to extend their ability to do anything they wish in their future. Mathematics should be made very tough to allow students to learn as much mathematics within their student’s life. Mathematics has defined everything we know until today, mathematics has helped create this world, the buildings, the computer, the mobile phone, books, and money, practically everything. I see much more potential in mathematics and as we all know there is no stop to research and finding new things therefore mathematics should be a subject our fellow Nepali’s should be very, very good at.
General Knowledge is another subject that should be made compulsory in order for effective communication, public image of a person, and much more. General knowledge notifies children of the world around them, the history and the current situation of the world.

Physical Education is yet another subject which is very important in today’s society as health problems have become a major issue around the world. Sports are known to reduce stress, expand learning capacity, and of course enhance and maintain physical fitness. Practical sports should be made compulsory for students as should theory. The theory should include the human body, advantages of playing sports and disadvantages of not playing sports, etc. It should notify students the importance of physical fitness. Sports business should also be incorporated into this subject to show different perspectives of sports and its advantages students can take. Different sports and Physical education careers should be shown to students in order for them to have as many choices in careers and interest to choose from.

Science is a subject for the students until 8th grade after which all science should be split in to specialized subjects which may include Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, organic chemistry, etc. Subjects should be very specialized after 8th grade before which it should be integrated in such a way that the general aspect of every science should have been delivered to the student by 8th grade so they may have more choice of areas to enter later in their lives. Science has had a huge impact in the progress of humans which include development of technologies, medicine, agriculture etc. therefore Nepalese should also focus on research and development as much as business for they go hand in hand. The basics of most sciences should be taught to students.

Art of Speaking, a subject where students should be taught how to speak, how to be influential, how to give presentations, public speaking, debating, art of argument and personal individual thinking and perception making. This kind of subject will make the student an individual who will be ready for the outside world and will be able to express his or her idea in a very professional way giving our Nepali children more opportunity around the world. This also gives them the ability to think for themselves and think in their own perception without having someone brain wash them. This subject should be very focussed on by the education system for most Nepalese are shy and unable to express themselves clearly in this global world.

Fashion, this is a subject I would really like to emphasize on as Nepal has become reluctant to understanding the importance of this subject. What a man wears is what others perceive of him. We being citizens of Nepal, Nepal as I know used to be a very, very classy country where fashion was on the rise but somewhere along the way we lost our touch of creativity. This subjects will show students the importance of what they wear, will show them ways of designing different wearable content. It will teach them of fashion business, international fashion history and the current situations. Modelling will be taught and also the importance of looks should be taught. Grooming and style, hairstyles and preferences, different fashion businesses in the industry. This will allow the future generations the power of fashion and looks, this subject will give students the confidence, the personality and also help guide them to understand who they are and what they stand for.

Business should be made compulsory for students at least until 8th grade for them to understand and learn a way of making money, a way to understand the financial world around the world, it should teach them to think in different ways, should teach students the vocabulary of business in English and Nepali. This will allow them to incorporate themselves into the world of business and life.

Economics is one of my favourite subject basically for the reasons of teaching students how money works, how the financial system works, it basically teaches students everything about how the financial system works, it teaches students many ways of making money without actually working, economics is everything in today’s society from politics to science, psychology to art. This subject truly is a subject that will widen the human brain and make people ready for the real world. Therefore I think economics should be taught from 6th grade onwards although not compulsory for students of economics must have an interest to understand this subject. Although we may use promotional measures for students to take the subject such as extra credits or presentations and advertisements on the subjects to try make students at least try the subject.

Another subject that will be incorporated within the course will be film and music. Students will be able to choose from one of these to help as a stress breaker and for personal interest. These subjects are creative subjects which help people express themselves. The new film industries around the world are growing therefore it will be a good experience and subject to know. Music too is a creative form of art and is a way to express one self and also acts as a stress breaker for many students. The industry of glamour all falls into mostly these categories therefore these subjects should be made available to students.

History is yet another subject that students should learn as it widens the scope of a student. History has taught us a lot and is the root of education which is why history should be compulsory until the 10th grade.

Now that I have given you the basic subjects I would like to incorporate into the Nepali system, let me tell you about how it will be taught and the course structure. It is a very simple and effective education system as students need time outside the school to learn the different treasures of life.

Firstly below are listed the 13 subjects that the course will have –

Nepali - Compulsory
English - Compulsory
Third-Language – Compulsory (5th grade onward)
Mathematics - Compulsory
Art of Speaking – Compulsory (6th grade onward)
Sciences - Compulsory
Business – Compulsory (6th Grade Onward)
Economics - Elective
Physical Education - Elective
Fashion – Compulsory (6th grade onward)
Music - Elective

As you can see above the listed subjects are either elective or compulsory. Now below are a grade by grade course structure and the amount of class hours per class.

5th grade to 10th grade – Nepali, English, Third-language, Mathematics, Art of Speaking, Sciences (specialized), Business, Economics, Physical Education, Fashion, Music, Film, and History.

From the 1st grade to the 5th grade all subjects are compulsory, although students have the choice of choosing between Music & Art. Nepali and English will be given 7 hours per week; Mathematics will be given 4 hours a week, Music/Art will be given 3 hours a week, Science will be given 4 hours a week, and finally general knowledge 4 hours a week.

Therefore School for students below 5th grade will be about 7 hours long.
5th grade onward there will be more subjects to study although they will be preparing students for the future and the real world in an entertaining and professional way. Students will have to take a minimum of 10 subjects, out of which 3 subjects will be elected by the students. 7 Subjects will be compulsory and three will be elective from the subjects listed above.

Teaching method will utilize high-amount of technology, and will be very alike to the British way of teaching. Teachers will need to make students ask questions and answer those questions. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and debate in order to help make the course better. Punishments will not be acceptable. This is just a short summary of the course, we will soon publish a detailed course outline and structure for those interested.
