ICIMOD's Himalica Initiative aims to support poor and vulnerable mountain communities in the Hindu Kush Himalayas to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
The Rural Livelihoods and Climate Change Adaptation in the Himalayas (Himalica) Initiative is financed by the European Union and aims to support poor and vulnerable mountain communities in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region in mitigating and adapting to climate change. This Initiative will work to reduce poverty, increase the resilience of local communities, and ensure the equitable and sustainable w
ellbeing of men and women in the Hindu Kush Himalayas by building the capacity of local institutions, promoting new livelihood options, and encouraging regional cooperation in the promotion of equitable approaches to sustainable mountain development. The Initiative will be implemented through five main areas of activity:
a. Building the capacity to formulate adapted policy
b. Expanding knowledge management
c. Strengthening collaborative action research
d. Piloting activities for climate change adaptation
e. Capacity building
Himalica Objectives
To enable and facilitate the equitable and sustainable wellbeing of men and women in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region through activities supporting the development of equitable policies and practices that enhance the resilience of mountain men and women, encourage sustainable development and conservation, and promote regional cooperation
