Hurrah! We are thrilled and humbled to share with you that our work has received a prestigious recognition πŸ† at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Our trademark 'The Himalayan Exchange' program received the award as a Champion under the 'International and regional cooperation' category.

Out of 966 submitted projects, 360 were nominated for the Online Voting, following a comprehensive review by the Expert Group. Prizes2022 reviewed more than 1.3 million votes cast and our project was among the top five most voted in the category. More details at wsis.org/prizes and fellowshipnepal.com

We dedicate this award to all our fantastic alumni who helped promote ICT education in various public schools of Parbat, Rasuwa, Gorkha and Dolakha districts as part of the program. πŸ™

GFN is organising the six weeks long 5th batch of the program for .uam .uam starting this week in Dolakha πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅ and we can't wait to welcome our fellows here after Covid forced us to cancel our programs in 2020 and 2021. Cheers!

Final call: We are seeking for up to three Team Coordinators for The Himalayan Exchange 2022 to be based in Bhimeshwor Municipality, Dolakha to help execute the program at micro level on daily basis by acting as the bridge between the international participants and stakeholders such as host families, respective schools, the community and GFN.

Details:
- Contract duration: 8 June 2022 - 19 July 2022
- Reports to: Project Manager on day to day basis and GFN Board on need basis
- Work based in: One of the three locations within Bhimeshwor Municipality, Dolakha (either in Charikot or Boch area - TBC)
- Added perks: Lettter of experience/recommendations upon successful work completion; enhanced soft kills; an up-close experience of village life; networking across various stakeholders
- Incentives: Remuneration NPR 22,000; all accommodation, meals and local transport covered; chance to join outings to Kalinchowk, Bhote Koshi and Chitwan
- Leave/termination: Candidates will need to write to the Project Manager at least 1 week prior. Deductions shall be made to the remuneration on a pro-rata basis for the duration absent

Requirement:
- Age: minimum 18 years old
- Education qualification: minimum high school graduate
- Language: proficient English and Nepali speaking and interpretation skills
- Essential: excellent team coordination skills; familier/ well adapt in village settings, quick problem solving and effective communication skills, acting sensitivity with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, awareness and commitment towards safeguarding epecially the participants and children from the local schools
- Highly desirable: evidence of previous relevant experiences, ability to work across multiple stakeholders, experience of working with international clients

Introduction to the Program
The Himalayan Exchange is an exclusive cultural exchange, community service, learning and fun-based student exchange program designed and hosted by Global Fellowship Nepal (GFN) for international students and is usually conducted in typical villages of Nepal. As participants (interns) live with the families in local style and carry out community service projects, they also get to exchange their culture with the villagers, have fun as they explore more of beautiful Nepal during the outings and gather life-long memories and learning. Participants are be divided into teams of up to six and placed with a carefully chosen family in the place of internship to carry out activities as per the objectives of the program (working in selected community schools on curricular and extra-curricular activities, assisting the host families and the communities in their agricultural and daily lives etc.). Where applicable, such activities shall be guided by factors such as local requirement, syllabus, culture, and expertise of the interns. GFN Pvt. Ltd. works with Global Fellowship Nepal (GFN) Foundation, a registered profit not distributing company, for the delivery of cultural exchange and community service aspects of the program.
Since 2017, four batches of THE have been conducted in Parbat, Gorkha and Rasuwa districts of Nepal mostly involving students from various institutions from France. GFN’s 2020 and 2021 batches were forced to be cancelled because of Covid-19 risks and the lockdown related reasons. The 2022 batch shall take place in Bhimeshwor Municipality of Dolakha district and will enagage up to 16 participants from France.

Guess who is having a great time? Everyone involved with Batch 3 of The Himalayan Exchange.

We are pleased to share that currently 15 students from Audencia Business School, France are spending a fun filled and authentic 6 weeks in different villages of Rasuwa with the host families.

Supported by the local government, local schools, the community, and GFN supervisors and coordinators, the fellows are teaching in local schools, running sanitation campaigns, building a library, helping the locals with farming and more.

Did you know?

So far, GFN has organized two batches of The Himalayan Exchange. The first batch (2017) was organized for the students of Telecom ParisTech, France through which they provided computer science lessons to underprivileged students of a couple of community schools in Parbat, Nepal.

The second batch (2018) had students from students from Edhec Business School and ITECH apart from Telecom ParisTech – all from France. The second batch continued the similar mission as the first batch in Gorkha, Nepal.

The third and fourth batches (2019) involving 20+ students from institutions like Audencia Business School and Telecom Paristech will be organized in Rasuwa, Nepal. The participants will not only continue teaching in the local schools but also support the local farmers and provide music lessons among many missions.
