https://ekantipur.com/news/2021/08/09/16284710073264499.html

Though the domestic work was not easy as explained by the Agent in Nepal, Binita (18 years old, name changed) didn’t have any other option besides working in a house in Lebanon back in 2015. When her two years contract was about to end, she requested her sponsor to provide the passport and allow her to travel to Nepal but in return, her Employer only provided false promises of sending her to Nepal. Five years passed by but still, the Employer didn’t allow her to return back. Back in Nepal, her family members were also worried and started looking for help to return her back. They came in contact with CMIR through Accountability Lab’s Community Frontline Associate of Sindhupalchok. With support from the General Consulate of Nepal in Lebanon and the CMIR network, we were able to assist her return process. Her feeling of being home is well captured in this photo(edited) from yesterday.

On a regular day of 2015 in Saudi Arabia, Tejendra and other four Nepali were traveling in the taxi to remit their earning back home but unfortunately, they met an accident, four died on the spot and one badly injured. There was an identity mismatch of two Nepali workers: Subash and Tenjedra. Subash’s family received the dead body and completed the funeral but after three months it was discovered that Subash who was declared dead in Saudi Arabia and Nepal is alive and Tejendra was dead. Subash returned to Nepal after a year of being recovered from the injury whereas the mother of Tejendra is still having a hard time to cope with the situation. After several efforts, recently the MOLESS, Nepal and Hyundai Company, Saudi Arabia compensated the mother of Tejendra. However nothing can overcome the loss of a family member, we are happy to help both families in their hard times.

“It was very exciting for us. The main thing is the dream you know. I used to dream. When I was very young my father died and my aunt never got married because she is the one who took care of us. She gave her whole life to us. It was hard to survive when I was very young. So my dream was to make money. So when the dreams are there, you are ready to climb that mountain. So Dubai was not so far.”
