On 22 September 2026, the National Statistics Office (NSO), in collaboration with UNICEF Nepal, launched the first national report on the Child Multidimensional Deprivation Profile of Nepal 2026, providing a comprehensive picture of children’s deprivation across multiple dimensions.
The report uses the Multiple Overlapping Deprivation Analysis (MODA) methodology and data from the Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (NMICS) 2014, 2019 and 2024–25 to examine deprivations related to education, health, nutrition, water, sanitation, housing and information access.
The launch brought together government representatives and other stakeholders, who highlighted the value of the report for evidence-based planning and budgeting, particularly to address disparities and the needs of the most vulnerable children.
The Chief Guest, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, Hon. Milan Khadka Roka, emphasized the need for targeted investments in nutrition, poverty reduction and regional inequalities, while Chief Secretary Ms. Radhika Aryal encouraged government officials to use the findings during the planning and budgeting cycle. UNICEF's representatives, meanwhile, called for the findings to be translated into concrete policies and actions to improve the lives of the most deprived children.
