Elected on 11 March 2026, YOUR NNYC once again renews its commitment to youth leadership, youth empowerment and sustainable development for our island nation.
In the lead up to the election, a public call was made by the NNYC for youth leaders from different organisations to contest in the election. We were pleased to receive 15 representatives, each coming from different youth organisations and associations around the island.
The General Assembly was conducted and led by the former NNYC Executive Committee who were not contesting in the election. The representatives made nominations and voted after a two hour long closed doors negotiations and lobbying session, which ensured thorough discussions that lead to a responsible, mature and democratic outcome.
Congratulations everyone! ππ€

NNYC are truly appreciative of the China Embassy in Nauru, His Excellency Lyu Jin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Nauru and his team for inviting two representatives on this cultural exchange experience in China. ππ¨π³ The delegation included a variety of representatives from sports, health, government, youth, tourism, Nauru media and community.
Our representatives, Helen Rokobuli and Treannah Dabwido are honored to learn about rich traditions and history, experience the daily life, food, language, and customs firsthand, and every moment was an eye-opening lesson.
Beijing site visits included The Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, Alibaba group, AI self driving car company called Baidu, the Forbidden City and more. They have learned some of the values, new tech and lessons that has helped China to become the most rapidly advancing developing country in the world.
Most importantly, our representatives were able to engage in meaningful discussions with Deputy Director General of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs, Catherine Ba as well as Vice President of the Chinese Peopleβs Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Zou Xaoli. Our youth reps were given the opportunity to voice out some issues and challenges that our Nauru youth faces and how China can assist. We are excited to learn through their reports of the discussions that took place to use NNYC as the bridge to collaborate with Nauru and China government to benefit our youth in Nauru.
They are currently in Guangzhou now with the rest of the delegation on the second part of the cultural exchange. Thank you to our friends, Bob and colleagues,in Beijing for the great hospitality and professionalism. π
Their experience and reports thus far have deepened our understanding, challenged our perspectives, and reminded how much we can learn from one another across cultures.
