We've been lucky enough to be part of the Nga Iti Kahurangi Project to refurbish our classrooms. This week they've started upgrading our carpet! We didn't get a picture of Mrs Holmes testing it out by rolling through Whare Marino 🤷♂️

Last night our staff like many Waiuku schools braved the cold at the college to listen to Catherine Gallagher talk about Anxiety in tamariki. Thank you to Mrs Kendall for organising, there were some great messages shared!

Kia ora e te whaanau,
see below the message from Mai Lighthouse.
We know the rising cost of everything is genuinely hard right now. If you or your whaanau are doing everything you can just to stay warm this winter - you are not alone, and support is
available.
Here are some practical ways to keep your home warm and your power bill down this winter:
- Heat one room well rather than many rooms poorly - close the doors and keep whaanau together in that space
- Run your heat pump at 18–20°C consistently - it's actually cheaper than cranking it high and turning it on and off
- Pre-warm beds with an electric blanket then turn it off before sleep
- Wash on cold - up to 90% of washing machine energy goes into heating water
- Turn appliances off at the wall - standby power can account for up to 10% of your power bill
- Block draughts with a rolled towel or door snake
- Close curtains before dark to keep warmth in - and open them during the day for free solar heat
- Keep showers short - a big difference across a whole family over winter
If anyone needs further support with power bills or finances, Mai Lighthouse offers a free, confidential financial mentoring service.

Helping Tamariki thrive when Anxiety is a problem
Kia ora e te whaanau. Mrs Kendall and the Ministry of Health have organised for Catherine Gallagher to come in and have a chat about helping tamariki with anxiety. The session will be held from 6.30PM to 8.00PM at Waiuku College on Monday 8th June. The workshop will be aimed at parents, caregivers and the wider Franklin community. The session will hopefully provide you practical strategies you can use at home and in daily life. Please see the attached flyer for any additional information.
