【Albany Village Library 日本語おはなし会のお知らせ】

今週も Albany Village Library で日本語おはなし会を行います。
わらべうた、手あそび、日本の季節の行事のお話など、
小さなお子さんと保護者の方が一緒に楽しめる時間です。

はじめての方も、どうぞ気軽に遊びに来てくださいね。

【Japanese Storytime at Albany Village Library】

We will be hosting Japanese Storytime again this week at Albany Village Library.
Join us for Japanese songs, hand-play activities, and seasonal stories that young children and their caregivers can enjoy together.

Families who do not speak Japanese are very welcome.
Even if you are new to the language, the songs, movements, and picture books are easy to enjoy, and everyone can participate comfortably.

🌿 多世代交流ハイキングDAY（6月14日）

ひんやりとした朝の空気に包まれながら、ワイタケレの静かな森で特別な時間を過ごしました。

今回訪れたCascade Kauri Walk（Waitākere）は、トラックがとてもよく整備されており、世代を問わず楽しめるやさしいコースです。道中では、樹齢約800年のKauriや、Kauri Diebackによって命を落とした樹齢約1000年のKauriの姿に出会い、この森を守り続けていくことの大切さを改めて感じました。

また、ホストの方からは、川魚の生態を通してニュージーランドならではの自然環境について興味深いお話を伺いました。さらに、メンタルヘルスを健やかに保つためのヒントも共有していただき、森を歩く時間がより豊かで、学びの多いものとなりました。

自然の中で一緒に歩き、語り合い、世代をこえてつながる時間は、私たちの心身の健康や地域のつながりを育む大切な機会です。こうした場を継続していけるのは、コミュニティーのウェルビーイングを大切にし、地域活動を支えてくださっているAuckland Councilの助成のおかげです。心より感謝申し上げます。

自然の中でつながるこの時間が、皆さんの週末の楽しみのひとつになっていたら幸いです。

これからしばらくは雨の多い季節になりますので、ハイキングDAYは2か月ほどお休みをいただき、9月に再開する予定です。次回もまた、皆さんと一緒に歩けることを楽しみにしています。🌿

🌿 Intergenerational Hiking Day (14 June)

Wrapped in the crisp morning air, we spent a special time together in the peaceful forests of Waitākere.

This time, we visited Cascade Kauri Walk (Waitākere), a well-maintained and gentle track that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Along the way, we encountered an approximately 800-year-old Kauri tree and the remains of a nearly 1,000-year-old Kauri that was lost to Kauri Dieback, reminding us of the importance of protecting these precious forests.

Our host also shared fascinating insights into New Zealand’s unique natural environment through the story of native freshwater fish. We were also given some valuable tips on maintaining good mental wellbeing, making our walk through the forest an even richer and more meaningful experience.

Walking together in nature, talking with one another, and connecting across generations are important opportunities to nurture both our well-being and our sense of community. We are grateful to the Auckland Council for supporting this programme through its funding and for recognising the value of community wellbeing and connection.

We hope that these moments in nature have become one of the highlights of your weekends.

As we are now heading into the wetter winter season, Intergenerational Hiking Day will take a short two-month break and return in September. We look forward to walking with you all again soon! 🌿

📚 JKETJapanese Children's Libraryの本たちの今 📚

1年前に閉鎖したJKET日本語図書館ですが、蔵書は現在、各地のおはなし会での読み聞かせや、JKET日本語継承センターの授業での貸し出しに活用されています。
以前のように本の利用のみを希望される方へお届けできていないことは心苦しく思いますが、公共図書館とは異なる幅広いジャンルと豊富な蔵書を活かしながら、日本にルーツを持つ子どもたちの日本語や文化とのつながりを支える活動に役立てています。
できることから少しずつ、本を通じた学びとつながりをこれからも育んでいきたいと思います。どうぞ変わらぬご理解とご協力をよろしくお願いいたします。

📚 Where the JKET Japanese Library Books Are Now 📚

Although the JKET Japanese Library closed a year ago, its collection continues to be enjoyed through Japanese Storytimes held in public libraries and as lending resources for students attending the JKET Japanese Heritage Centre.

We understand that this is different from the previous library service and may not meet the needs of everyone who simply wished to borrow books. However, we are making the most of our diverse collection and extensive holdings to support children with Japanese heritage in maintaining their connection to the Japanese language and culture.

One step at a time, we hope to continue creating opportunities for learning, connection, and belonging through books.

本日の Mt Roskill Library 日本語お話会では、雨降り・てるてる坊主をテーマに、歌・読み聞かせ・お手玉遊び・てるてるぼうずづくりを楽しみました。
日本の季節の文化に触れながら、子どもたちが楽しそうに作品を作る姿がとても印象的でしたね。

素敵な機会をくださった Mt Roskill Libraryの皆さま、そしてご参加いただいた皆さまに心より感謝申し上げます。
次回は、７月５日（日）１０時の開催です🎋

We hosted today’s Japanese Storytime session at Mt Roskill Library, with a theme of rain and teruteru-bōzu.
The children enjoyed singing, listening to stories, making their own weather dolls, and playing with traditional Japanese beanbags (otedama). It was wonderful to see their happy faces as they explored these seasonal and cultural traditions.

We are truly grateful to Mt Roskill Library for the opportunity, and to all the families who joined us.
Our next session will be on Sunday, 5 July at 10am. We look forward to welcoming you again.

The first Sunday of every month is Japanese Storytime at Mt Roskill Library.

For our June session, we will enjoy:

-Otedama (traditional Japanese beanbag play)
-Rain‑themed stories
-A simple craft activity

As the rainy season is approaching, we will also make teruteru‑bōzu, the little weather dolls that children in Japan hang by the window to wish for sunny days. It’s a fun and easy craft for families.

We look forward to seeing you and sharing a lovely morning together.

Everyone is warmly welcome. No Japanese language ability is needed — just come and enjoy!

多文化・多言語の中で育つ子どもたちの成長、そして子どもを育てるご家族を支えることは、JKETの大切なミッションです。今回の活動を通して、その実現には家庭だけでなく、地域からの理解や、多様なバックグラウンドや世代を超えた人々が集い、相互理解を促す機会が欠かせないことを改めて感じました。
Intergenerational Cultural Play のプロジェクトに参加できたことは、JKETにとって大きな学びとなりました。こうした機会をくださった皆様、そしてプロジェクトを支えてくださったすべての皆様に心よりお礼申し上げます。

At the core of JKET’s mission is the commitment to support the growth of children raised in multicultural and multilingual environments, along with the families who nurture them. Our recent project highlighted that achieving this mission involves more than just the efforts of individual families; it also requires understanding from the broader community. We aim to create safe opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds and generations to come together and foster mutual understanding.

Participating in the Intergenerational Cultural Play project was a valuable learning experience for JKET. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided us with this opportunity and to all who supported the project.
