The OWL (Otara Water & Lake) Trust has just has a meeting at which "The Board", a group of interested people, put up a proposal for the Trust's consideration
Their Vision for the Otara Catchment is:
"To dredge & sustainably decontaminate the Otara Lake & contributing streams , rid them of rubbish & return them & their riparian margins as amenities for public enjoyment &: to create social capital through development & job creation in adjacent areas"
I think this is a "first" positive step in our Long Term Strategy but what of the Short Term?
What do you think? This is your chance to share your ideas.

Otara Lake and Creek Community Liaison Committee Trust
The Trust was step up to promote the long overdue remediation of the Otara lake and creek. The current Strategic Plan covers Short & Long Term Aims
The OWL trust is active now & will be promoting a Big Clean-Up in May. Come & join in the Fun - Jim Sinclair - Will post time & date
Should we forget about the problem?
Should we deal with problem dredging out all the accumulated silt & depositing is in the adjacent volcanic, crater of Ariki nui, just to the north
Should the deposits of silt be dried & deposited along the lake shores creating useable land?
Or should we find another solution to the problem?
Any/ideas are very welcome
The Otara Lake & tributaries opens on to the Wai o Taikehu or Tamaki Estuary. This huge watershed is polluted with a build up of silt that almost smothered the lower reaches. The problem is what to do with the silt that is cost effective
