🏆 Sports Camp Day 4 & 5 🏆

Yesterday saw MRI test their mettle in the semi-finals they had qualified for, again requiring a massive step up in effort and focus. After seven semi-finals, MRI successfully qualified for two finals. In a tight match, MRI unfortunately lost their croquet final.

Soon after, MRI achieved one of their highlights of the week, winning the boys 7s competition after defeating an incredibly strong team with a great pedigree in 7s.

We knew this week would be a massive step up in terms of competition, and the results at prize giving reflected that. Despite the tough results, MRI stuck to their school values, and this was recognised as we were awarded the overall sportsmanship award, the second most prestigious award, a pleasing achievement given how tough the week has been.

A massive thank you to Miss Golding, Cole Hughes, Rachel, and Steph for their work with the team. As well as a massive thank you to the ongoing support we have received from our families and wider community.

🏆 Sports Camp Day 2 & 3 🏆

Day 2 and 3 of sports camp saw the competition enter the main pool play stage. MRI did not start strong, and the mood was low by the first lunchtime. However, our MRI kids persevered and locked in, and we soon saw our fortunes change.

Over the next day and a half, MRI increasingly started to win more games than they lost and secured a number of semi-final spots in the nighttime competition. Off the back of a huge Wednesday afternoon, MRI pulled through on a number of must-win games. This pleasingly saw MRI secure an incredible seven semi-final spots for finals day today. This is an awesome result given the level of competition and the size of the schools involved (for context, the leading schools secured eleven semi-finals).

A massive day lies ahead for our kids, and they are absolutely fizzing for the challenge ahead.

Room 27 took on the challenge of creating fresh pasta dough from scratch with Mrs Matthews in Food Technology today. Using the Thermomix, they learned how modern kitchen tech can perfectly mix and knead dough to the ultimate consistency. Afterward, it was all hands on deck to roll, stretch, and cut the dough into beautiful, fresh pasta strands.

While they didn't cook the pasta during this session, the teamwork, focus, and precision they showed in mastering the dough prep was top-notch.

🏆 Sports Camp Day 1 🏆

The MRI sports camp campaign kicked off yesterday morning, departing from MRI in the early morning. This year, we are attending the most competitive camp, and the step up has been noticeable. Most pleasing, though, is that it’s clear MRI is not off the pace and fits comfortably within the competition.

We had a mixed bag in the athletics, with some superb results tied in with a few missed opportunities, which was our introduction to the competition. The kids did a great job in the new round of sports, particularly archery 🏹 and hole-in-one golf 🏌️. The evening events saw us make the semi-finals for chess and cage soccer. Day 2 promises the challenge of the main draw starting, but our kids are keen and eager for the competition that lies ahead.

MRI REPRESENTS OCEANIA/NZ/ MT ROSKILL ON THE WORLD STAGE! We are excited to finally be able to share with you an exciting initiative that MRI has been involved in, representing New Zealand on the world stage!
Earlier this year our school students were selected to design a World Cup jersey, representing Oceania and New Zealand for the Design FC project ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
The initiative gave students, from each of the countries participating in the World Cup, the opportunity to create a football-inspired design representing their country.
With support from Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), Mt Roskill Intermediate Students were selected to bring New Zealand’s story to life!
Our Team was led by footballer and artist Zeno who pulled together the design of the wider team made up of Abbie, Aasia, Ty, and Viaan. They are also keen footballers.
The shirt has now been printed, launched and is currently on display in New York as part of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
We are so very honoured for the opportunity and proud of our students and their fabulous, rich story telling to represent our school, Mt Roskill, New Zealand and Oceania on the world stage!

Last night MRI participated in the TOI Wearable Arts competition for schools in New Zealand. This is a vibrant showcase of young talent, bringing design ideas to life and showcasing them in the Aotea Centre! We are excited that two MRI designs, selected based on design submissions, were accepted into this amazing showcase of Auckland/ New Zealand young talent. This year they received over 900 registrations nationwide!
Our MRI students had developed their designs as part of one of our electives of ‘fashion design'. They then had three weeks to bring their ideas to life. This included pattern making, sewing, hand sewing, crocheting, structural creating as part of the process.
We are so proud of the group of designers, the models and our wonderful visual art teacher Ms Goforth. It was an exciting opportunity, experience and event. Congratulations to all of those involved. Our MRI team represented us strongly and paved the way to inspire our future designers... offical photos to come ...

🏉🥉🥈 Central Zones Rugby 🥈🥉🏉

Last Wednesday, MRI sent three teams to compete at CZ’s rugby: our Open Boys, our Open Girls, and our U60kg boys.

🥉 Our U60s had a slow start to the day, going down in their first game before drawing their next one. They finished with two wins on the trot to come third overall, while rueing missed opportunities from earlier.

🥈 Our Open Girls also lost their first game, before proceeding to win their remaining games and going on to place first equal in points, but second overall on countback. The girls showed massive growth throughout the day and have pleasingly qualified for Auckland Champs in week 10.

🥈 Our Open Boys had a superb day, going undefeated in pool play and making it all the way to the finals before going down in a tight match to place second overall. A fantastic result was achieved given the competitiveness of the competition.

Overall, it was a very impressive day by MRI, with top three placings in all divisions entered, and small margins the only factor in not achieving better results. A massive thank you to Mr Du Plessis, Mr Uili, Cole Hughes, as well as Miss Mayhew and Miss Meredith (our student teachers) for their work with the squads.
