Year 8 Girls Football Zone Day
The girls battled hard in every match and should be incredibly proud of their efforts, finishing an impressive 9th out of 20 teams. Their positive attitude, teamwork, and commitment were evident all day long. A special thank you to Mya from BC for her support and assistance with coaching throughout the day.

A few weeks ago, BIS was proud to take two boys' teams to the Zone Day competition. Both teams performed well throughout the day, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and manaakitanga both on and off the field. We were fortunate to have the support of three former BIS students: Nehe, Ariki, and Nate, who generously gave their time to help out on the day! A special thank you also goes to Alex and Lini from Harbour Sport for their ongoing support and encouragement.

FROM THE ARCHIVES

Having come to the end of our Foundation Pupils’ photos, we will continue our school history section by dipping into our archive and pulling out different items and photos from across the decades.

We start with the cover of the programme designed by Michael Codling for the 1970 production of The Wizard of Oz. The show was produced by Mrs Kath Pring.

The main characters were played or shared by 34 students. A number of the supporting cast played several roles. There were 37 Munchkins, 43 People of Oz, 12 Generals, 30 Dancers plus a 26-person orchestra!

Looking through the names of the students involved, many of them went on to be Foundation Pupils at Birkenhead (then Birkdale) College in 1972.

Just a reminder about our Online Safety Evening this Wednesday, 17th June, where we will be hosting Andrew Cowie as he gives parents clear, helpful and practical support around how to keep children safe online.

Next Friday in our School Theatre...

On Friday 22 May, a team of chess players representing Birkdale Intermediate School attended the Auckland Primary and Intermediate Doubles Chess Competition. They competed against some of the strongest young chess players in New Zealand and performed extremely well in a highly competitive field.

We were incredibly proud of the team’s resilience, positive attitudes, and outstanding manners throughout the day. They represented the school with pride and showed great sportsmanship both in and out of their matches.

Well done to Leo Flower, Risen Wijaya, Joshua Deresch, and Ben Marriner.

Our student leaders had an inspiring leadership workshop with a representative from World Vision, building their leadership skills and learning how to lead and drive school projects with confidence and purpose.
