This October, in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month, discover the rich culinary heritage of Aeta communities in Central Luzon through Luto sa Buho, a traditional cooking method reflecting generations of Indigenous knowledge and resourcefulness.

Using young bamboo, locally called bulu, food is cooked over an open flame, giving it a distinct smoky aroma. Traditionally, this method provided a practical way to prepare and carry rice during long journeys in the mountains. Although less common today due to modern cookware, these traditions remain meaningful expressions of Indigenous foodways and the communities' connection to their environment.

More than a cooking technique, Luto sa Buho showcases the cultural heritage of Aeta communities in Central Luzon and the importance of preserving traditional food preparation as part of our Traditional Cultural Expressions and Philippine Creative Industries.
