Thank you Morobe Agricultural Show, 2022. The Cocoa Board of Papua New Guinea Regional Office in Lae for setting up a public display booth. The highlight of the two day event saw for the first time, a Combination cocoa dryer. The dryer uses both energy, wood and sun to dry the beans. Sunlight during dry weather and when it rains, firewood can be used.

Last week, the Cocoa Development Project in Finschhafen saw its first export of Cocoa beans with 77 Bags loaded onto the barge for shipment to Lae.

This is the result of a partnership between Finschhafen DDA and PNG Cocoa Board in 2019 which began with the nursery of 50,000 hybrid cocoa variety seedlings in two locations in Finschhafen.

The Finschhafen DDA under the leadership of Hon Minister Rainbo Paita and the Administration of CEO Mr Glen Kiso, aims to continue to support cocoa development and rehabilitation programs to establish Finschhafen as a Cocoa Producing hib in Morobe Province.

The recent announcement by PNG confectionery producer Nestlé to build a K55 million Chocolate factory in Morobe Province will provide the exponential market boost for local cocoa growers.

Cocoa development program is still being run in Finschhafen and is now expanding its nursery capacity and farmers network as well.

This indeed aligns with Hon Rainbo Paita's Overall Economic Vision

Hon Member for Maprik and Agriculture & Livestock Minister during the 2022 Cocoa of Excellence Show in Kundiawa.

Made a long speech and here is a snippet of what he said about working the land. How agriculture is important to PNG and not oil, gas or gold (non renewable products) which will run out one day.

He encourage everyone with access to land [80% of landmass in Papua New Guinea is own by customary landowners] - do work your land.

To own a land, means what do you do with it.

Work the land, make gardens to feed yourself and also commercialize it with productive crops like coffee and Cocoa.

Otherwise PNG will be full of lazy landowners.
