NEWS & EVENTS | NATIONAL MOCK YOUTH PARLIAMENT CONCLUDES DAY THREE
The 5th National Mock Youth Parliament (NMYP) concluded its third day of sessions today on a high note, as participants moved beyond theory and into the practical workings of Parliament.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in informative sessions facilitated by key institutions including the National Statistical Office, INDECO and UNDP. Building on this foundation, the National Parliament, through its Parliamentary Committees Division, delivered a hands-on session that gave participants a real experience of parliamentary committee processes.
This session became the highlight of the day, with participants assigned roles as committee members and heads of public offices, alongside representatives from NGOs and churches. The exercise simulated a live committee inquiry, allowing participants to conduct hearings and question witnesses on the issue of the legal retirement age of public servants.
From the National Parliament’s perspective, the exercise demonstrated the importance of committees in oversight, accountability and informed decision making. It also provided young participants with a clear understanding of how Parliament examines national issues through structured inquiry and dialogue.
Day three marked a key stage of preparation for the National Mock Youth Parliament Sitting scheduled for this Friday, where participants will formally apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the program.
