Reliable Source of clean water Changing the Course of an entire community in Tufi, Northern Province

In Ward 12 of Tufi LLG, Northern Province, local youths and community members have already connected three villages to a gravity-fed water system through their own initiative, hard work, and determination. Now, with a K50,000 Community Grant from Digicel PNG Foundation, Tufi Youth Arise Movement Inc. (TYAM) will extend the system to four more villages, helping ensure that families across all seven villages can access safe and reliable water closer to home.

For many residents, especially women and girls, accessing water has meant travelling long distances by foot or canoe during dry seasons. The expansion project will reduce this burden, improve health and hygiene outcomes, and strengthen community resilience through a sustainable, locally managed water supply system.

Through volunteer labour, youth leadership, and a shared commitment to improving village life, Tufi Youth Arise Movement continues to create practical solutions that will benefit generations to come.

Project Officer of Tufi Youth Arise Movement, Benjamin Bade said: "The support from Digicel PNG Foundation will help us complete a vision that began with local action, ensuring every village in Ward 12 has access to clean and reliable water for years to come."

Friends and Partners Receives K20,000 to Drive Positive Change in Joyce Bay, Port Moresby South

A significant investment in community development has been made in Joyce Bay, Sabama, Port Moresby South, with Friends and Partners receiving K20,000 through the Digicel PNG Foundation Community Grants Program to implement its Community Violence Intervention Project.

The project will deliver community awareness and education programs, counselling services, home-to-home interventions, youth engagement activities, women's empowerment initiatives, leadership training, financial literacy sessions, and disaster preparedness awareness. The initiative is designed to address the root causes of violence, strengthen families, and create safer and more resilient communities across Joyce Bay.

A new Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Building in Gloucester LLG, West New Britain Province

Quality healthcare begins with having the right facilities in place. In the rural communities served by Anglican Health Services at Aumo Aid Post, mothers and children often access essential health services in a facility that lacks a dedicated space for maternal and child healthcare.

To help address this challenge, Anglican Health Services has received a K50,000 Community Grant from Digicel PNG Foundation to support the construction of a new Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Building in Gloucester LLG, West New Britain Province.

The new facility will provide a dedicated space for antenatal care, postnatal services, immunizations, nutrition support, and health education, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for both patients and healthcare workers. The project is expected to benefit more than 6,200 people within the Aumo Aid Post catchment area and surrounding communities.

By strengthening local health infrastructure, the initiative aims to improve access to essential healthcare services, increase the number of safe deliveries attended by skilled health workers, and support better health outcomes for mothers and young children. It is a significant investment in the wellbeing of families and the future of the community.

Health Promotion & Program Officer of Anglican Health Services, Noah Igari said: "Every mother and child deserve access to quality healthcare close to home. This support from Digicel PNG Foundation will help us provide a dedicated space where women can receive essential care throughout pregnancy and where children can access vital health services. The impact of this project will be felt for many years across the communities we serve."

Through its Community Grants Program, Digicel PNG Foundation continues to support community-led projects that improve lives and create lasting impact across Papua New Guinea.

A Bright Future for Waknam Health Centre in Western Highlands Province

Digicel PNG Foundation has awarded a PGK50,000 Community Grant to Nenga Romtemb Seeds of Hope Association Inc. to support the installation of solar lighting and lamp posts at Waknam Health Centre in Mul-Baiyer District, Western Highlands Province.

For many years, the health centre has operated without reliable electricity, making it difficult for healthcare workers to provide essential services during emergencies, night-time treatments, and maternal care. The solar lighting project will help create a safer and more supportive environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

The project demonstrates the power of community-driven solutions, with sustainable solar energy set to improve healthcare access, increase safety around the facility, and strengthen service delivery for more than 600 people in the surrounding communities.
Through the Community Grants Program, Digicel PNG Foundation continues to support local organisations that are developing practical solutions to address community needs and create lasting positive change.

Congratulations to Nenga Romtemb Seeds of Hope Association Inc. and the Waknam community on this important milestone. The Foundation looks forward to seeing the impact this project will have on improving healthcare outcomes and community wellbeing.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating for Toare Elementary School in Gulf Province ✨

When employees are empowered to give back to the communities closest to them, meaningful change happens.

Through the Digicel PNG Foundation's 3L Staff Grants Program, Digicel staff member Patison Kopada led a project worth K5,000 to upgrade classroom facilities at Toare Elementary School in Gulf Province. The project included classroom maintenance, roofing and walling improvements, flooring upgrades, and better seating arrangements, creating a safer and more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

The official opening brought together around 200 students, parents, teachers, community leaders, and residents of Toare Village, alongside members of the Digicel PNG Commercial Sales Team, including the Commercial Manager and Commercial Executives, to celebrate this important milestone for the community.

Speaking at the event, Patison Kopada highlighted the importance of giving back: "I am pleased that we were able to support the people of Toare through the Digicel PNG Foundation's 3L Staff Grants Program. These are the communities we engage with every day, and their continued support of our business is deeply valued. This project is our way of giving back and contributing to the development of a community that has supported us over the years."

Head Teacher Mr. Ela Ovoroa welcomed the support, noting that it came at a crucial time for the school.

"We are grateful for the support provided by Digicel PNG Foundation. The assistance was timely, as our school facilities were deteriorating and in need of urgent attention. This new classroom has brought renewed hope to our students, teachers, and the wider community. We now encourage the community to take ownership of the school and help protect these facilities for future generations."

The project reflects the spirit of the 3L Staff Grants Program, empowering employees to create meaningful change in their communities while supporting education and building stronger futures for Papua New Guinea's next generation.

iCare4U Launches Second Women’s Accommodation, “Crystal’s Cabin”

The Digicel PNG Foundation joined iCare4U to celebrate the successful completion and launch of second women’s lodge called Crystal’s Cabin, a project supported through the Foundation's Community Grants program. The initiative has created a safe and welcoming accommodation facility for vulnerable women in need of temporary housing and support.

Construction officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony on 30 June 2025 and was completed within five months through the collective efforts of volunteers, builders, local community members, and support teams, including teams from Australia who assisted with construction, furnishing, and landscaping works.

Since its completion, the facility has already provided accommodation and support to women facing challenging circumstances.

iCare4U General Manager, Mrs Nita, said, “This facility was created to offer safety, comfort and peace of mind to those facing difficult circumstances. Among our first residents was a woman awaiting medical results who needed temporary accommodation, and the wheelchair-accessible design has ensured families with disabilities can also access support. We currently provide a safe haven for several women and children, helping them find stability during challenging times.”

This project is a testament to what can be achieved through partnership, compassion, and a shared commitment to improving lives. By investing in safe accommodation and support services, we are helping create opportunities for women to rebuild their lives with dignity, security, and hope for the future.

During the launching, Digicel PNG Foundation Board Chairlady, Susil Nelson-Kongoi said, "This project is a place of hope, safety, and opportunity for women who need support during some of life's most challenging moments. Congratulations iCare4U for the great work you’ve done in accommodating women who needs support and a safe place to live."

A Brighter Future Starts with a Single Light

For years, over 300 students in a small village called Insi village in Markham, Morobe province, have struggled to study after dark, healthcare workers have relied on torches during emergencies, and community activities have been limited by the absence of reliable lighting.

Markham Hewagy Cooperative Society saw the need and applied to Digicel PNG Foundation under the Community Grants program and was rewarded a K50,000 grant to carry out their project called the Insi Village Puatsadan Lighting Project.

The main aim of the project is to harness solar energy to power classrooms, the village aid post, church facilities, and key public spaces. With the introduction of reliable lighting, the project seeks to create an environment where learning, healthcare and community life can continue long after daylight fades.

For students, it means more time to read, learn, and prepare for the future. For healthcare workers, it means providing better care during night-time emergencies. For families, it means safer public spaces and greater confidence moving around the community after dark.

Village Representative and Assistant to the Chairman of Markham Hewagy Cooperative Society said, “Reliable lighting may look and seem simple, but for us, it has opened doors to better education, safer healthcare, and stronger community opportunities. We want our children to study without limitations, our health workers to serve with confidence and our community to continue moving forward together.”

Built on community participation and local ownership, this initiative demonstrates how renewable energy can be used to address everyday challenges while laying the foundation for long-term development.

Digicel Staff Supports Former School Through 3L Staff Grants

Through the Digicel PNG Foundation's 3L Staff Grants Program, a K5,000 grant was awarded to a Digicel staff, Stevenson Koreo, to support a school resource improvement project at Tibunofi (Biteve) Primary School in Ward 4, Kamano Two LLG, Kainantu District, Eastern Highlands Province.

The project was successfully launched and delivered essential ICT equipment and stationery resources to the school to enhance teaching, learning, and school administration. The support included a computer set, an HP printer, a loud hailer, a speaker system, A4 copy paper, and stationery supplies. These resources will assist teachers with lesson preparation, student assessments, examinations, reporting requirements, and the day-to-day management of school operations.

Steven encouraged the students that he has not forgotten where he started. The school gave him a foundation and now he was given the opportunity to give something back.

The project was implemented in consultation with the Head Teacher and School Board to ensure that the resources provided addressed the school's priority needs. Through this initiative, Digicel PNG Foundation continues to support staff-led projects that improve access to quality education and create lasting, positive impacts in communities across Papua New Guinea.

On behalf of the school, Principal, Mr Peter Hinome expressed gratitude, "we are proud to see a former student return, not only as a successful professional, but as someone who has remembered his roots and chosen to give back to his community."

A New Chapter for Oksapmin From Isolation to Access

For many families in Huti Ward, West Oksapmin, healthcare has never been around the corner. Accessing basic medical services often means travelling long distances through difficult terrain, leaving many vulnerable to preventable illnesses and delayed treatment.

Today, that story is beginning to change after West Sepik Inclusive Development Foundation Inc. (WSIDF) received a K50,000 grant from Digicel PNG Foundation under its Community Grants program to build a community aid post.

The proposed Huti Community Aid Post Project, aims to bring essential healthcare services closer to more than 500 people living in one of Sandaun Province's most remote communities. The aid post will provide primary healthcare, maternal and child health services, basic medicines, and health awareness programs, creating a lasting impact for generations to come.

Founder and Chairperson, Noel Steven shared: "Development is most meaningful when it reaches those who have been left behind for too long. We believe every person, regardless of how remote their community may be, deserves access to quality healthcare. This project will bring essential services closer to the people and empowering communities to build a healthier future."

This initiative reflects the power of community partnership, local leadership, and a shared commitment to ensuring no one is left behind. With support from stakeholders and the community itself, Huti Ward is taking a significant step towards a healthier and more resilient future.
