HMPNGS Cape Gloucester sailing strong! 🚢🌊

As the PNGDF's largest transport vessel, HMPNGS Cape Gloucester plays a key logistics role in PNGDF operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster responses across PNG’s vast maritime environment.

HMPNGS Cape Gloucester’s restoration was supported by the PNG-Australia Defence Cooperation Program, which provides practical assistance in training, technical support and maintenance activities.

Under the PNG-Australia Alliance, this cooperation helps build PNGDF capability, improve readiness and deliver practical outcomes that support a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.

Keeping Our Families Safe from Acute Watery Diarrhoea.

The 2026 El Niño event is expected to bring prolonged dry weather, extreme heat, water shortages, food insecurity, poor sanitation and an increased risk of disease throughout Papua New Guinea. Every member of the PNGDF has a responsibility to protect their health, their family, and maintain operational readiness.

The PNGDF was recently blessed with new chaplains commissioned at Murray Barracks - an answer to the prayers of many PNGDF personnel.

Chaplains are central to the life of the PNGDF and will make an important contribution to the PNGDF, alongside the newly commission legal and medical officers.

Congratulations and thank you for the generosity of our new chaplains to serve God, King and Country through ministry and pastoral care in the PNGDF.

The PNGDF concluded our first PNGDF-led joint bilateral air exercise - Exercise Kapa Pisin 2026!

Held out of Port Moresby, Vanimo and Green River, Exercise Kapa Pisin tested PNGDF Air Transport Wing's deployment to an austere airfield, to self-sustain, conduct flying operations and redeploy.

🎉Tenkyu tru for the UK’s 2026 Strategic Leadership Programme! 🇵🇬🇬🇧

The UK Defence Academy delivered the programme in Port Moresby from 12 - 16 October and was a successful opportunity for shared-learning, growth and collaboration.

The UK’s Pacific-based Strategic Leadership Course empowered emerging senior leaders across PNG government to deepen understanding of strategic leadership.

This initiative was a unique platform for networking and peer learning, across the PNGDF, Department of Defence, Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the Department of Foreign Affairs - PNG.

PNGDF personnel have completed specialised geospatial training at Murray Barracks, strengthening PNG’s sovereign capability in mapping, analysis and military planning.

Delivered under the PNG-Australia alliance 🇵🇬🇦🇺, the training builds practical skills and interoperability between our defence forces and supports future humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, including monitoring the effects of El Niño across PNG.

Side by side, step by step, PNG and Australia are building the capability and preparedness to respond to shared challenges and support a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.
