NHC ENTERS PARTNERSHIPS

Through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Department of Works and Highways and the National Housing Corporation (NHC), the Works Department will upgrade the access road and drainage system at Duran Farm. STAFF HOUSING FOR DoWH

In a major boost for public service welfare, the Department of Works and Highways (DoWH) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Housing Commission (NHC).
The Government-to Government (G2G) partnership will see DoWH spearhead infrastructure upgrades at the Duran Farm housing project, located in the Port Moresby North-East Electorate, in exchange for dedicated staff housing allotments.

Under the terms of the agreement, DoWH will provide vital technical support and engineering expertise to the Duran Farm initiative. The department will oversee the upgrading of road, improving connectivity and transit within the estate and drainage systems, ensuring long-term climate resilience and quality structures for the housing development.

This collaboration directly supports the National Government’s ongoing efforts to supply affordable, high-quality housing for the public servants.
As a direct benefit of this partnership, the NHC has allocated 50 housing allotments specifically for DoWH personnel.

The department will use its internal screening processes to distribute these allotments fairly. Priority will be given based on; long serving dedication to the department, compliance with the requirements of housing eligibility and alignment with department’s housing policy and established home-ownership scheme arrangement.
DoWH Secretary, Gibson Holemba commended the board and management of the NHC for their proactive reforms in the housing sector.

“This is a timely partnership,” Secretary Holemba stated. “I highly commend the NHC or their efforts to make affordable housing a reality. I encourage DoWH staff, especially first-time home buyers, to embrace this opportunity to own their first homes through this G2G arrangement.”

The Duran Farm project continuous to be a flagship site for public sector housing, and this latest agreement marks an important step forward in delivering both reliable infrastructure and secure homeownership for the nation’s public servants.
