It is projected that 20km will be sealed by December 2026.
This road will also service the LOs of Kutubu and Mt Bosavi.

*HAWAIIAN BRIDGE ON WEWAK COASTAL HIGHWAY MAKING STRONG PROGRESS*

The landmark Hawaiian Bridge project along the Coastal Highway in Wewak is steadily taking shape, marking another important milestone in the Pangu-led Marape-Rosso Government’s commitment to improving national transport infrastructure under the Connect PNG program.
Secretary for the Department of Works and Highways, Gibson Ali Holemba, expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction works, confirming that the main girders and beams for the bridge structure have now been fully completed.
Mr. Holemba stated that the next phase of the project will focus on temporary works associated with the installation of the main steel tube truss, which is a critical component of the bridge structure. Completion of the bridge project is expected in October this year.
“It is satisfying to see the project progressing well. The completion of the main girders and beams represents a major engineering milestone, and we are now moving into the next important stage of construction,” Mr. Holemba said.
The Hawaiian Bridge project forms part of the broader effort by the Marape-Rosso Government to strengthen road connectivity, improve transportation access, and support economic growth across Papua New Guinea. Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly improve mobility for communities, businesses, and travelers along the Wewak Coastal Highway corridor.
The Department of Works and Highways reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality infrastructure delivery and timely progress on major national road projects that continue to connect rural and urban communities throughout the country.
