𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗨–𝗣𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺

More than 300 participants from Papua New Guinea and Europe gathered today in Port Moresby for the 5th EU–Papua New Guinea Business Forum under the theme "The EU Global Gateway for Sustainable Investment, Connectivity and Growth in Papua New Guinea."

The Forum brought together representatives from 77 companies, including 23 European companies, and organised more than 170 business to business and business to government meetings.

Opening the Forum, Prime Minister Hon. James Marape underscored his vision for sustainable and inclusive development, calling on European and Papua New Guinean businesses to "grow together". EU Ambassador H.E. Erika Hasznos reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening trade, investment, and business partnerships with Papua New Guinea through the Global Gateway.

A key highlight of the day was the announcement of the Water Wise Communities Project Loan and Grant Agreement, a new Global Gateway investment.
European Investment Bank is providing a 25 million EUR (PGK 126.6 million) concessional loan combined with a 16,4 million EUR (PGK 83.1 million) grant by the EU to bring steady supplies of potable water to an extra 400 000 people in PNG.

Participants also exchanged ideas and explored business opportunities in renewable energy and safe water, digital transformation and connectivity, and inclusive and sustainable extractive industries development.

Tomorrow's programme will feature site visits to Global Gateway projects, discussions on agriculture value chains, and practical business sessions on exporting to the EU market and doing business in PNG.

Around 400 participants, including more than 40 representatives of European companies, are registered for the 5th EU-Papua New Guinea Business Forum that will take place on 2 and 3 June 2026 in Port Moresby. This major event will bring together senior political leaders, investors, business leaders and development partners from Papua New Guinea and the European Union (EU).

Held under the theme “The EU Global Gateway for sustainable investment, connectivity and growth in Papua New Guinea”, the Forum will provide a platform to strengthen economic cooperation, advance sustainable investment, and expand partnerships under the EU–Pacific Interim Economic Partnership Agreement (iEPA). Papua New Guinea was the first Pacific country to ratify iEPA, in May 2011, and today benefits from fully duty-free and quota-free access to the EU single market. The EU market is the fourth export destination for PNG.

The Theme of the Forum clearly resonates and aligns with the overarching vision of the country which is to be “smart, wise, fair, healthy and happy society”. The Government strives to achieve this long-term vision through the various medium-term plans. The PNG MTDP IV 2023-2027 serves as the ‘road map’ for the Government of PNG in the pursuit of its ambitious development agenda and this vision. This Forum is expected to create the platform to address any gaps.

European Union and Papua New Guinea to convene 5th Business Forum: 400 participants including 40 European companies on their way to the 5th EU-PNG Business Forum on 2 and 3 June 2026 in Port Moresby

The European Union in Papua New Guinea has launched a Call for Proposals to promote 𝘊𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 & 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. This initiative builds on the European Union’s ongoing commitment to strengthen democracy and uphold human rights in PNG. The European Union in Papua New Guinea is now inviting eligible organisations to submit proposals, for more information see the eligibility in the Guidelines.

Two key opportunities:

Lot 1 – 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮: strengthening civic participation for effective public information disclosure, timely access to reliable information and promotion of meaningful opportunities for public contribution to decision making processes, including through enhanced public debates on budgets and social accountability mechanisms. Budget max. 𝗘𝗨𝗥 𝟲𝟲𝟭 𝟯𝟯𝟯 (Approximately 𝗣𝗚𝗞 𝟯.𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻).
