๐๏ธ June 03-04, 2026 | Alabel, Sarangani Province
As part of its continuing consumer protection efforts, DTI Sarangani, through Consumer Protection Division Support Staff Kristelle John P. Talino, conducted a special price and supply monitoring of imported rice in Alabel, Sarangani Province.
This initiative is strictly pursuant to Executive Order (EO) No. 118, s. 2026, which mandates a price ceiling of โฑ50.00 per kilogram for imported rice (5% broken) for 30 days, effective May 14, 2026.
During the latest monitoring across five (5) retail and wholesale establishments, it was observed that traditional, pre-listed imported brands are currently unavailable, prompting retailers to stock alternative varieties such as Kohaku Plus, Alas (Jasmine), Mr. Chow (Japonica), and Kohaku (Jasmine) instead.
Compliance with the mandated โฑ50.00/kg price ceiling remains weak for these alternatives, with current retail prices ranging from โฑ54.00 to โฑ60.00/kg. Store owners have reported that this discrepancy is due to their current inventory consisting of older stock acquired at higher purchase costs prior to the issuance of the Executive Order.
