Ang Municipality of Alicia, Isabela sa pamumuno ng ating Alkalde Atty. Joel Amos P. Alejandro,CPA kasama ang Municipal Agriculture Office katuwang ang Rural Health Unit Alicia ay ipinagdiriwang ang Rabies Awareness Month na may temang "Rabies-free na pusa't a*o, kaligtasan ng pamilyang Pilipino” ngayong araw, ika-22 ng Marso, 2023.

Bilang parte ng programa, Ang Municipal Agriculture Office sa pakikipagtulugan sa Provincial Veterinary Office ay nagkaroon ng libreng Anti-Rabies Vaccination sa mga a*o at pusa. Layunin nito ang pagsulong ng Rabies-Free Municipality at masiguro na protektado sa anumang uring sakit ang mga alagang hayop.

Kabilang dito, ang Rural Health Unit Alicia ay nagsagawa ng Social and Behavior Change Communication patungkol sa Rabies, Republic Act 9482 ( Anti Rabies Act of 2007) at Responsible Pet Ownership sa mga dumalo sa programa. Ganun din ang pamamahagi ng mga flyers patungkol s programa.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵

Ang rabies ay isang impeksyon sa tao na nangyayari pagkatapos ng transdermal na kagat o gasgas ng isang nahawaang hayop, tulad ng mga a*o at pusa. Maaari itong maipasa kapag ang nakakahawang materyal, kadalasang laway, ay direktang nadikit sa mga sariwang sugat sa balat ng biktima.

Ang rabies ay itinuturing na isang napapabayaang sakit, na 100% nakamamatay bagaman 100% maiiwasan. Hindi ito kabilang sa mga nangungunang sanhi ng mortality at morbidity sa bansa ngunit ito ay itinuturing na isang makabuluhang problema sa kalusugan ng publiko dahil (1) ito ay isa sa mga pinaka-acutely fatal infection at (2) ito ay responsable para sa pagkamatay ng 200- 300 Pilipino taun-taon.

🦠 Rabies is one of the oldest diseases shared by humans and animals. The disease occurs in many places in Asia and Africa but is present on all continents except Antarctica.

🐕 Dogs are the primary source of human rabies transmission, and the rabies virus is spread through bites or scratches, usually via infected saliva.

💉Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal. against the rabies virus helps prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths per year. Vaccines and immunoglobulins may be effective at preventing disease if given promptly after exposure, but once the disease is established, there is no way to treat it.

✈️ Quarantine for dogs and cats has helped many areas achieve a “disease-free” status. However, the movement of pets across borders may increase the risk of the virus entering. Policies such as vaccination requirements, serological testing (rabies antibody levels), a post-test waiting period and strict border control have also helped reduce transmission around the world.

🐈 All mammals, including cats, can become infected with the rabies virus and transmit the disease to humans. The chances of a cat developing rabies after a bite are influenced by factors such as the amount of saliva deposited in the wound, and age – with young cats more likely to become infected. Rabies should also be suspected if a cat has come into contact with wildlife, especially bats.

🧠 Infected cats may show various signs such as behavioural changes (e.g. aggression), fever, excessive drooling, restlessness, enlarged pupils, paralysis, incoordination and coma. Death generally occurs within 3-4 days.

⚠️ Do NOT handle the cat as this may provoke biting. Instead, safely confine the cat and seek professional assistance (e.g. from an animal control officer or veterinarian).
